5 Point Harness
 
I WOULD LIKE TO INSTALL 5 POINT HARNESS FOR THE FRONT SEATS IN MY 71 BUICK GSX. THE SEATS HAVE THE CUT OUTS IN THE TOP OF THE SEATS FOR THE BELTS TO PASS THRU. I DONT HAVE A CAGE IN THE CAR AND WOULD LIKE TO STAY AWAY FROM INSTALLING ONE IF AT ALL POSSIBLE. I KNOW THAT YOU GUYS CAN COME UP WITH A COOL SOLUTION THat IM MISSING. THANKS IN ADVANCE

Sorry, but there is no SAFE way to put 4 or 5-point belts in a car without a cage. Has it been done? Yes... but it is in no way safe.

Unless the shoulder belts are mounted at the same level as the shoulders and passthroughs in the seat (+/- 10 degrees or so) there is a strong risk of spinal injuries should you ever be in a crash and need the belts. Excess belt length (such as what is seen when guys run the shoulder belts down the back of the seat and bolt them to the floorpan behind the seats) also leads to additional stretch in an impact which prevents the belts from doing their job properly.

Not to mention with 4 points your torso is kept vertical in a crash and without rollover protection your head becomes the rollbar. With a standard 3-point your torso is allowed to bend inwards and clear the now caved-in roof.

For a car without a cage or additional rollover protection a good 3-point retractable (i.e. standard shoulder belts) is the best and safest option... and Morris Classic just happens to make a very nice set of bolt in 3-points for 68-72 A-body cars.

Hey Billy, I did some looking for your belts (found on Summit only). Do you have any photos of them installed, preferrably on a 1st gen Camaro ?

I wouldn't plug 'em if I didn't like them. :)

I bought a set last year and love them, WAY more comfortable and functional than the factory twin-buckle 3-point setup.

Your belts are probably the best and most well thought out option for a "bolt in" retractable 3-point for our early cars out there... which is why I bought them.

Good advice, but what about us convertible owners not running a roll bar? Am I better off with a lap belt or 5 pt harness mounted to the floor?

they are right you need a cage.they sell a harness bar that mounts across the back of the seats but they look cheapy made.if you try to mount then wrong with out a cage if you wreck or roll the car you mess up your back bad i found out the hard way.normal 3 point belts are fine for a street car i have 5 point belts in my mustang with a 8 point cage but daily driving it i wear the factory lap belt.if you wear the 5 points every day youll hate them.

What do people think is the minimum caging required to run 5 points? I DO NOT want to lose my backseat, but i want the "hold you in the seat-ness" of 5 points. I also am not concerned about NHRA rules, but want to be legal to run autocross.

Why not look into a three point seat belt(i think that whats they are called). Like in every new car out there. I'm pretty sure someone makes a nice system for Chevelles.

Edit: I see morris classic has already chimed in here. Look at there product its killer.
