67 camaro 502 headers

1 Attachment(s)
Does anyone out there have a recommendation for full length headers that will fit a modified and fuel injected zz502 in a 67 pro-touring camaro? I will be running ~600 HP and would like to use full length headers with 2" or 2 1/8" primaries. I've been researching heavily, but am not confident that I'll have enough ground clearance for the lowered car or the necessary clearance in the engine bay.

Here are the vehicle mods that may influence the header selection:
- DSE Speed Kit 3 front end (tubular uppers/lowers, 600 steering gear, coilovers, etc.)
- IDIDIT steering column
- Vintage Air A/C and Frontrunner system (Gen IV)
- Keisler TKO 600 trans kit

I've been looking at the Hooker Super Comps, but have been told that ground clearance will likely be an issue. Lemons makes a great header that should fit, but are about triple the cost. Other good options? I've been waiting 15 years to bring her back to life, and we're finally at the assembly phase... and I want to get it right! Any help on what works would be appreciated.

I ran both Super Comps and later the Lemons headers on my 69, and neither ever scraped. Mine was lower than stock, but not super low. They both would clear the DSE steering box also, don't think any of the other things would be an issue.

Thanks Jody.

Were you running 2 1/8" primaries w/ 3/5" collectors? Any preference between the Super Comps and the Lemons?

Thanks again,

Todd

I think the super comps only went to 2"; the 2 1/8" Lemons fit much easier, more steering box clearance even though the tubes were larger. Makes you think Hooker could do a re-design for better fit. But both worked well. The Hookers do require the correct big block frame mounts (not all the aftermarket ones are right).

You might talk to, "Spin Tech", and see if they have some suggestions. Theit tubes are oval and allow for better ground clearance.

My super comps were beat up pretty bad in my 67 with a 454 and hotchkis 2 inch drop springs. Both the tubes scrape and the collector really needed to be turned before they made the header . One of the three bolts was straight down so you lost clearance write there.Factory gm mounts and stands.

Made my decision!

Thanks to all of you for the feedback... After doing more research, I ended up going with the Lemons headers -- 2 1/8" primaries with a 3 1/2" collector. I talked to Dan Lemons quite a bit and he indicated that his BB header was designed around the DSE 600 steering gear, etc... and will not interfere with any accessories (A/C, etc.). I couldn't find any other manufacturer that sold a 2 1/8" setup that would work with all accessories. According to Dan, the collector flange is designed with the 3rd bolt facing upwards to maximimize ground clearance, with the bottom of the collector dropping no lower than the oil pan. This wasn't a cheap purchase, but why skimp now?!

Here's a photo off of the website:

Now .. I need to decide what 3" system to run behind these puppies! Flowmaster Super 40's, Magnaflows, or Spintechs?? The car is not a daily driver, so slightly obnoxious is ok :D

That's alot of money for not being coated!:wow:

True ... from the research I have done, I expect to get what I pay for (headers are being built now). These ran me about 1500 and change, fully coated with O2 sensor bung and longer header bolts (longer due to extra flange thickness).

$1500 is cheap...

$1500 is real cheap... for what you are going to get from the big brown truck here in a few days !!
