WIP: Phantom Fairlane 1:24
 

i guess first i should introduce myself. My name is Russell Butler and I am a Physics Major at Texas A&M University in Commerce Texas. I am 22 years old. I am very intrigued by pro touring cars for two main reasons. I love classic american muscle cars, and two the way they handle and are designed. well, i dont have the funds or the equipment to build my own 1:1 pro touring vehicle, so i bring forth to you, my pro touring in 1:24. It is inspired by Charlie Libby's Fairlane. I am in the process of building a WORKING suspension for this project, making it my most in depth build to date. I feel, even more so than my 85% scratchbuilt mustang pro mod. All i have time to provide right now is a link to my current progress on the modelling board i visit. I've got orientation at the college in 30 min. and later i have an appointment with a Land Rover Master Technician to talk suspension geometry, to make sure my set up is as accurate as possible. Well i hope that you guys take a look at my project, and let me know what you think. comments and suggestions are more than welcome. constructive criticism, on the theories, ideas, and looks of pro touring are more than welcome. stay tuned, to see how the phantom fairlane progresses. thank you

i've got some clearer pictures of my suspension set up. the body is in silver right now. need to finish up the hood and get it in silver before i begin with the yellow. let me know what you think

Welcome Russell. That's going to be cool! What materials are you using for suspension pieces?

awesome. i got a reply. lol. thank you for the compliment. the suspension is made out of aluminum tubing that i am simply superglueing together. they are hinged to the chassis with a straight pin. the upright/spindle is a peice of aluminum tubing between a pair of 3/32 ball bearings, these did a pretty good job of replicating the ball joints and allow the spindle to remain in a vertical axis through the range of motion of the a-arms. my goal is to make a suspension that not only looks real, but functions as close to the real thing as possible. i've kind of put my projects on hold. I've been helping my girlfriend with her first model. and i've been trying to clear out some old parts to get some funds for my 1:1 project. an 89 S-10, i want to give it the pro touring treatment. i know its not your regular pro tourer, but i feel it has potential. keep the comments coming....and i will be more than happy to entertain any questions or suggestions you guys have.

Helpful tip #1: "it's best to do this naked so you don't get any paint on your clothes...OK now sit on my lap and I'll teach you about brush strokes" :D

ROFLMAO.thats funny. on a serious note. it makes a relationship go a lot smoother when your significant other takes a serious interest in your hobby/obsession. lol

yeah... if your signifigant other keeps the interests cheap its great.... when she decides she wants her own hot rod cuz you wont let her drive yours... it gets really expensive really fast. oh yeah... i need 2 70 camaros, 2 ls motors, 2 t56's.....etc... you see where im going with this

thanks for the comments guys. this is kind of my way of keeping my "hot rod expenses" to a minimum while im in college. im sure it will continue through the years, but hopefully there are 1:1 projects in my future. lol. i should have some pics of paint later on...if i can find some dang dupli-color clear coat.
