Radar Detectors?

Hello Guys, I was wondering how many of you use Radar detectors and if so which ones have you found to be the best? For those who have them, are they hard-wired into your car or do you just use the cigarette adapter and the spiral power cable?

Thanks, Josh

cigarette lighter, tacky powercord, they go off as you are being measured, not before... LOL, they go off all the time it seems, and you often get a ticket for having one in many places... there is one surefire way to avoid tickets though... dont speed on public roads....

I'm with Charlie, V1 is the best, but the escort is second. Problem is, both will not help so much with laser.

Valentine1!!!!! I've used the non sprial cord to clean up the install a bit, running it up the side of the dash and along the front of the windshield. They can be hard wired in.......

For laser, you need LPP or Laser Pro Park. A nifty "parking distance device" that just happens to jam laser signals.

I got a V1 and expressed shipped it and it saved me a ticket first time on a long trip. This thing pays for itself literally once a month and I don't even speed much.

Best buy I've made in a LONG time.

Craig!

So do you install them both to defeat them both?:burnout:

I have a CHP buddy who set up a mock "speed trap" and we tested a Bel STI, Rocky Mountain Radar, and a V1... the STI gave earlier warning than the V1 consistently at our test area by approximately 1/2 mile in both rear and front detection. The Rocky Mountain was a POS.

The V1 arrows are really, really nice though, and they're constantly doing firmware updates.

Also, for laser (which is becoming more and more common) any detector will only let you know you probably just received a ticket. By the time it goes off you have already had your speed read. You'll need a jammer for that (which are illegal in California.) :_paranoid

If you have a laser jammer and your detector goes off, it is advised that you slow to the limit and then switch your jammer off. If the officer never gets a reading off your car he'll probably become suspicious and pull you over.

My other experiences have been cops are far less likely to "cut you slack" if you get pulled over and they see you have a detector-- because "you don't need one unless you're doing something wrong."

Valentine 1 hands down.

I've had mine for about 7 or so years now. I haven't had a chance to get the firmware updated yet, but it still works better than just about every radar detector out there.

Funny thing is, I rarely speed. But it sure is nice to have.
