E85 conversion

Read the latest issue of Car Craft with 2 badass musclecars with twin turbos putting over 1000 horses to the ground with E85 fuel. I remember reading about the new Green carbs from BG and I think Holley may have one. Seems like the only mods you have to make adjustment for is for more fuel since E85 requires a more rich mixture than good old standard gas. I was wondering if any of you guys have played around with the new corn juice and maybe had some benefits. I'm all for the US to be self-reliant when it comes to oil/gas.
How hard would the conversion be from a standard EFI motor to the new E85 motor and what would be the mods?

I have been wondering about the same thing. I have a carbed engine and I think it will be a little more difficult because to get more fuel there would be tuning differences but with a fuel injected engine the computer makes some changes. i've been thinking about switching to an lsx engine and trying to convert.

As travis said Troy is doing flex fuel stuff. The Nova may run on it as well. I never knew this but I guess its like 100 octane or something. Talk to them about it.

i think a lot of people converting to E85 are doing it mostly for either the fact that it burns cleaner than normal gas, and that it has the potential of creating more power... i personally wouldent mind switching.

E85 is 85% Ethanol. Since it's ethanol I believe it's around a 105ish motor octane, but like Methanol it takes more to run. If you doing a boosted setup or a high compression motor, then you'll see the bigger benefits. I was reading and article and the IRL switched to E85 this year and used 20% less fuel than last year.

E85 is something like 27% LESS btu per quantity then gas = Less power per volume - and less range per tank. But, if your all about eliminating foreign fuel - it is a viable goal and solution.

I will find the link that explains how to convert a LS1 over to E85...
