Swapping to EFI without switching cams
I'm having a hard time putting something together that will work with the below cam. I've searched several sites but can't get a clear answer as to how flexible each system will be for cam tuning.
My Options: Stealthram with stock TPI ECM and wiring harness. Full stealthram package from Summit. Edelbrock pro-flo EFI. Holley 950 system. F.I.R.S.T. system (but was told the cam was too big for the ECM). I want reliability and still have the performance from my 69 camaro. It has a 355 with a 4 speed muncie and 410 gears. Edelbrock RPM Heads, cam(234/244 @.50 .488/.510 on a 112), and Intake. If I can get something put together then I can think about adding a six speed. I'm not racing it, I just want to be able to start it, drive it and be able to drive it 400 miles without something going wrong. Thanks for looking.. |
I think you have some mis-printed numbers on the duration, but I think I know which one you're talking about. That is not a large cam and should not cause any issues with a system that can be tuned. If the FIRST system can't tune that then it is either not tuneable or severely limited and should be avoided.

Your so right about the specs, I edited the post to reflect what I think are the right numbers.
I emailed the FIRST people and they use a 730 ecm but the highest duration their people will tune for is 220. I can go my own route and either have it tuned or try it myself. Since the car is show with some go, I think I can get away with having someone else burn a prom. There seem to be some good companies out there for this. http://i174.photobucket.com/albums/w...007aMedium.jpg |

I would avoid any efi system that cannot tune beyond a 220 @.050 duration cam. Basically they are saying we're using a stock computer (which is fine) but have no way to tune it. The advantage of efi is in the ability to tune it; any of the other systems you mentioned could tune that combo easily, as well as FAST, BigStuff3, Accel, or simply a stock GM computer and tuning program like HP Tuners or EFI Live. Thanks for the reply,
I was under the impression that the 730 ecm was a GM unit. Meaning, I could have a custom prom made or buy my own equipment to burn proms. |

nothing wrong with it if it's tuneable. I started in EFI with a prom-burner and tuning software. I do prefer the systems that tune via a laptop and allow faster changes vs the burning prom deal, but they both work. Jody |
I think the RPM range for the FIRST might fall a little short of what I can use.
The stealth looks good too but I'll have to save for a year to pay for it. Jody, Nice cars man, just fantastic. |
