what backspace with this combo?????

hey guys

a good friend of mine just purchased a 69 camaro that had a set of heit's tubular uppers and lowers.. on a 8 inch wheel what backspacing does he need since they are an inch narrower..... and how wide can he go on the rear with stock wheelhousings??? also if he narrows the rear a couple of inches that should give him a nicer lip on the back right??? would a 17x10 be to tight ???? i have a mini tubbed car and my 11's don't have too much extra space...

thanks justin

On a stock front, I'd run a 4.875" backspace, so if it is truly narrowed by an inch, then a 3.875-4" backspace will work on an 8" front.

For the rear, 10's can get pretty tight in the rear, especially if the car is driven hard, and if it sits low. And yes, of course if he narrows the rear, it will give him a larger rim lip up front, but don't go too far.. at min. backspace that can put alot of stress no axle bearings. On a 10" wheel, a 5.5" backspace is usually run, with about a 275/40/17.

thanks for info, I can see realisticly if the a arms are one inch narrower then the wheels need to have an inch taken out of them.

on the rear I think the best bet is to go to a 9 inch or .5 wheel......

thanks again......
