74 Javelin AMX Project
This is one of those situations where I don't want to sell the car, but I gotta be honest with myself, she's been neglected and the Camaro project will likely take up my attention for the next year or so. The best thing to do is sell the car to someone who can take care of the restoration.
She's a 1974 Javelin AMX, originally an automatic car. The body is in very good shape, no rust bubbles or holes I can find. The passenger door has ruse in the lower rear corner, though. Other than that, it's either not there or hidden very well. The floor pans were toast, the guy who had the car before me threw down some wire mesh and a bunch of bondo. I did a temporary fix of fiberglass mat to smooth them out while I was looking for replacement pans, but I never found any. They're solid, they just don't look all that good. Carpet could hide it, though. The car is complete except for the aformentioned carpet. IT runs, too, and pretty strong, too. The engine is a built up AMX 390 from a 69 with (I think) a 4 speed T-10 transmission. The front seats were missing, so I temporarily bolted in a set of ebay "race seats" that are solid, ok comfortable, but not period correct obviously. The seat belts are there, just not installed yet. I drive the car around my neighborhood once every couple of weeks when there are no cops around. It has a lot of power in there, I don't know what all was done to the motor, but it's very strong. I hope someone on here loves Javelin's like I do, and is willing to finsih the task. I'd like to get $2000 for her. http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y29...iwill/jav1.jpg http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y29...iwill/jav2.jpg http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y29...iwill/jav4.jpg http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y29...iwill/jav3.jpg |
Also, if anyone knows anyone who might be interested, please pass this around. Someone out there loves them a Javelin.

If I hadn't just bought my project car I'd like to buy her.
I pass this thread on to some friends with AMC love. |
Ok Rupp you need to saddle up.
Time for your next project...here it is. Talk about cool and different!
Good luck on the sell |
Thanks guys! They are different, and very cool. If I can find safe storage for her, I'll keep her, but right now that isn't happening, and with her being outside here in a VA winter, I'm none too comfortable with it, ya know?

Also, if anyone wants to come up with a complete LQ4 with harness and ECU in trade, I'd take that, too.

Wish you would consider a 5.3
I could do that.. The way gas has gotten..ALMOST consider the LS6 out of my truck.. http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h34/My-SS/engine.jpg DH Tell me more about the 390 |
Unfortunately I don't know much about the engine. It's lopey as hell, though. The guy who had the car before me worked at a performance shop, and took the 390 from a 69 AMX and built it up for this car. He punched it out, just like AMC did, to get around a 401 or so. I know the think has a wicked amount of power. I've cut the rear loose with full throttle at 45-50 MPH on those 275 or 295 tires (I'd have to look again) on the rear, so there's power there for sure!
It needs tuned badly. The car sat for a few years with me changing the oil out every 6 months and turning the oil pump over to prime everything, then cranking it for a few seconds to get it all oiled up. But the carb is out of whack. I replaced a leaky fuel feed line in the engine compartment and added some good gas, and she started right up. Takes a little coaxing if I let her sit to get started again, but after that she runs until I turn her off, or stall her. A good rebuild on the holley 750 (I think it's a 750) would probably fix that right up. I've driven the car up and down the street, and she runs just fine. The electrical system is a bit screwy, the headlights don't work, but I'm 85% sure that the wire just isn't hooked up in the dash when I started reassembly to get her out of the garage. I bought the car basiclaly because I love the body style, and I wanted a real muscle car beater to drive around. I did so, until the starter went out, and she went into the garage. I replaced the starter and various parts, and just got busy with other things. If you're at all serious about the LS6, I might be willing to throw in some money with the car. I don't think a 5.3 is going to cut it for what I need, unfortunately. And thanks for posting! |
Bump. Anyone?

Javs are such cool cars. Really love them. Never owned one but would love to, unfortunatley I'm buried up to my wallet pocket in my 77 T/A resto-mod right now. Great car though... great car! Good luck with the sale!
