GMR tube clamps
Full 4130 chromoly machined tube clamps
designed for removable sections in cage work. These clamps are designed to be the absolute strongest connection between the two tubes. These connectiors gain their strength from the specific interlocking design that creats a solid bond for any tension or compression forces. the unit is machined from solid 4130 stock so the strength it built into the clamp. Nice stuff. I'm wondering if you have any problems with welding distortion making these clamps hard to use. As an example, I'm thinking of using them on door bars so I can remove them for street use. When I attach the stubs to the main cage rails, will I have problems with alignment of the joints after fully welding the other end of the tubes in place? I'll be using 4130 (1.75x.095) if that makes any difference. jp |
well it is a give and take. Due to the fact that these units are very precision machined they can cause some problems with taking the bar in and out for the first few times. Ive had some issues on a few bars but i simply had to use some elbow greese to get it in there. I weld in the clamps first then fit the tube to the other cagework. That way it is easy to weld in the clamps and it minimizes the distortion. Also, i keep it clamped together while welding the other tubes in place.
the benefits to these clamps are from the interlocking precision machined teeth. They will never rattle or get pulled apart. In seveal instances i have seen the 4130 tubing bend/shear before anything happend to the tube clamp. They were designed for the high end off-road race industry so the strength was the first concern when designing them. For any cagework we do that uses a removable section, these are the only option. Can you paint it? Or will the paint just "rub off" during assembly/disassembly? jp |
I have never painted them myself so i cant give you a first hand experience. I have had guys paint them and they said they were just fine. I have had powdercoated chassis use them with no problems.
to give an honest answer, it might just depend on how hard you are on the parts. i sold 10 of these today from people calling via this posting! never thought they would be so popular!:) Jason |

I had a customer trying to find some of these a couple months back. He needed 30 sets. At least next time I'll know where to get them.
