My 69 Camaro as a daily driver

For this last month and beyond.

I racked up 7,500 miles on our new Silverado in 3 months - and decided to lay off it for a bit. It gets 14-16 mpg (crew cab 1500 2x4).

So, I dusted off the Camaro and have been running the roads with it. It gets 14-16 mpg in Town on the SLP Stage III LS1 and auto trans - but it does cost more because it runs high test fuel.

None the less - it has been a real joy to just run it. I take my 3 year old son to daycare and the backseat and carpet show it. Thanks to the Vintage Air, climate control is no problem.

Issues so far....the stupid posi clutch is terrible and it makes slow sharp turns like a solid one piece axle in the rear. Looking into a fluid change on that soon. Also - the driver seat is terrible uncomfortable. Looking for some late model GM buckets to put in there. Also - would like to upgrade the belts soon to three point.

Other than that - it has been a blast.

Anybody else doing the daily driver thing?

Me too! I have a 68 camaro and a 70 chevy pickup for daily drivers. I take and pick up my 20 month old daughter from day care everyday. Get a lot of comments about the "baby seat". So far no major issues. The pick up has about 60k miles on it and the camaro has 11k.

Camaro is a twin turbo small block. It gets about 13 mpg in town and 19 freeway.

Pickup is 406 sbc with efi- 11 in town and 16 freeway.

The car I have now "Dead Cat"

Was originally purchased 14 years ago and I restored it to drive as a daily driver. Put about 38,000 miles on it before the last rebuild.

This was my driver when I started my State Farm Insurance agency. Imagine the look on my policyholder's faces when I pulled up at there house in my 69 and hopped out in a coat and tie.

Speaking of power touring. I had to spend 6 months in Charlottesville, Va while my wife stayed home in Birmingham, Al. 680 miles one way. Never took more than 10 hours to get home. I would tach 4500 rpm running about 95 all the way home (350/turbo350) . The 69 never let me down. I wore ear plugs when I was driving. The first time I made the trip my ears rung for 3 days.

I miss driving it everyday and may start this spring.

Here is a shot of it before I took it apart and what it looks like now. Still can;t seem to find the time to put the front bumper on.
