Dead Cat on the dyno
Well, I finally made it back up to Nick Williams shop in Mooresville to have my tune touched up and idle problem corrected. For some reason when I let off the throttle the AIC would drop straight to the idle setting. He had to increase the decay by 200%. Corrected the problem and all is well.
Of course I did not think to take a video camera with me to catch some shots on the dyno so I had to take stills. Anyway, it made 425 rwhp and 385 rwtq. I thought it would have made about 440 and probably would have with a 12 bolt instead of a 9 inch. The car is a ball to drive, fastest one I have ever owned. I am running 3 inch pipes with 14 inch Magna flows...it was screaming at 7 grand. |
Cool. What corrected the problem?

cool news:yes:

Nice numbers, your car looks awesome.

You have a decay
rate with the IAC (idle air control) that when you close the throttle is brings the rpm down at a certain rate until you reach idle. For some reason mine was acting like it was at idle as soon as the throttle was closed causing it to not want to idle pulling up to a stop sign. He slowed down how fast the IAC was closing.
This is a stock cube LS1. 347 ci. It has forged diamond pistons, h beam rods. A set of TEA 5.3 stage 1.5 heads that have been milled to yeild a 11.3 compression ration. Cam is a comp XER grind 230-230 on a 110 lsa with .597 lift. FAST 90mm with Nick Williams 90mm tb. I orginally built the motor to run nitrous, but sold the system to a friend. I may have to buy it back. |
Sweet Payton!! Glad the problem is solved!! So does this complete the build?

NICE!
What type dyno? DynoJet, Mustang? My guy has been fussing with mine as well.. seems to run pretty good now. Gotta love EFI  Ever put those brakes on the car? |
Nice, I'd love to hear it sing at seven grand.

Looking good Payton, nice numbers.
My little LS1 mustang only put down 405 on motor and still ran 11.22 at 122 in the 1/4 . You will have some fun with that for sure. |
Yep, it is finished
I still need to put my front bumper on. To do that I will need to make some custom mounts. Hope to have it on by next week.
Jason, Did you ever get the white car lined out. I am really curious on how that big inch LS motor did with the Kenne Bell. Not sure my car would be as fast as that Mustang. I am blowing the tires off through the first 2 gears. Those run flats are hard as a rock. Steve, It was on a dyno jet. I have the graph but it was scanned and emailed to me. If I could figure how to turn it I would post it. I never did post about the brakes. I will start another thread, but yes they are on! I thing yours made 440 at the wheels? Must have been the 13 more cubic inches. Our motors are very similar. |
