carbed ls2 or fuel injected early SBC???

Im having a tough time deciding whether to use a carbed ls2 or a fuel injected early SBC in my 1968 camaro. They would both be hooked up to a t56 or a TKO 5 speed. IT'll probably be my daily driver for a while and i would like to drive it a lot on the street so i need good drivability and GAS MILE!!! But I would really like to make it bad a** cause i really want to take it out to the track but realize i still need the drivablity and the gas mileage. I like the idea of both, adding new school and old school in each one. I was wondering what you guys thought might be the better choice in gas mileage?? drivability?? coolness??

thank you

What about a FI ls2??

Yea, i thought about it and i could definitely see the benefit its the best of both worlds, but for some reason i cant pull the trigger on it. I think i might want to retain some sort of old school vibe to it. we'll see

If you are going for an old school vibe but with the drivability of a modern EFI motor, then I would go with a LS1 or LS2 w/ an aftermarket EFI like jp did on II Much...it's an awesome motor that has more of an Gen 1 SBC look. Here's some pics of his LS2, pretty cool what changing the intake manifold will do!

I would go with an LS1 or LS2 setup anyday over a small block.

You said that you want to keep that old syle vibe, what it the rest of teh car like. My car is going to have a stock paint syle paint job, stock style interior, and vintage looking wheels, so it has that kind of feel. I went with a FI SBC, and i will try to hide most of teh wires the best taht i can and I also went with a Pro-charger instead of a turbo because i think that turbos look to modern. If i could do it over again i would really look a building a nice carbed Ls motor and do some things to make it look more vintage. This may not help you, but something to ponder....

I'm not a big fan on the carbed ls motors I had one with coilpacks and computer controlled then I switched it too a distributer and the computer controlled did not run good at all hard to start always was popping and making all kind of racket, then I switched to the distributer front setup and It acted a lot better but I was never impressed it only made good power at high rpms, I'm by no means a motor guy so I would look into different setups but if your going to drive it alot and want to get good gas mileage the only way to go it with a fuel injected ls motor we put a ls1 with a 6spd in my last 69 camaro and took it on some of the power tour and averaged 29 mpg and it was by no means slow, If you went with a ls2 and some bolt ons you'd have a hell of a setup and get in the mid to high 20 mpgs
