Gen III 5.3 into my 80 Camaro
I purchased a new 02 Gen III 5.3 Truck motor. I would like to put it in my 1980 Camaro pictured below
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2162/...43acbcde_b.jpg This is the new motor http://farm1.static.flickr.com/151/3...6e46a0c1_o.jpg So I was politely informed about carb / injection in the post "Penny's new little sister". So I have just purchased an LS1 intake manifold, Injectors, Fuel rails and Throttle body for a whopping $127 and it is local pickup here in MI. OK guys I'm going to need a list of other components I will need. I know I'll need a harness, ECU and gaskets. What else will I need? How do I get the ECU reprogrammed? I have no problems modding the harness myself. What do I need to do for fuel delivery? Let’s see if I can put all this together for less than $1,000 I still want to put the GM Hot cam kit in and have the heads ported. I hope to do everything for $2,000 or less. I also will need headers and accessories to fit in my Camaro. Will the truck accessory brackets work in a second Gen? Will the oil pan work with my stock subframe? Thanks for any and all the help! |
I don't know what you need, but DANG thats one clean car!!
What are you going to do with the suspension? |
Thanks, it's been in the family for about 14 ~ 15 years. It was rough when I got it, but slowly we've made it what you see here. My brother did the body work, grafted a 72 Chevelle cowl hood on to the stock hood and painted it as you see it.
I'm not sure what I'm going to do with the suspension yet. I have a set of C4 Corvette control arms and I am considering making my own front sub for it. I have more ideas than I have time. I’m going to put a C4 IRS in the rear this spring/summer I will post my progress as I go. Currently the car has Hotchkis springs in front, but other than that it is stock. I’m using the 5.3 right now to test fit into my 67 Camaro project. After I have an idea of what needs to be done to the 67 I’m going to put the 5.3 in the 80 Camaro. I hope to be driving it this summer with the new setup. It all depends on what I need to do to get the 5.3 going with Fuel Injection. |
