$6000 to spend on Paint

Im fixing up a car for a friend of mine, its a 1968 Camaro with all new panels. Hood, roof, 1/4;s,doors, fenders, trunk, rear panel basically all new, whats the averadge price for a paint job.Can it be done for $6000.Its still needs panel alignment and all the common issues with a paint job.It also has a new floor the whole underside has been painted Boyd Red but the guy didnt do a good job,the owner wants it redone. We want the car primered first so no rust can start.Anybody out there that can chime in.Here are some pics.

The average price for a complete body work, panel alignment, and paint is usually $8K to $10K, or more. And that's if it doesn't need a bunch of metalwork to get the gaps right, etc. But it depends on the area of the country you're in. It is possible, but I'd say you're a little low to get a nice job done unless the guy is a friend.

By the way, that car has some nice pieces on it.

like jody says, 8-12k gets nice paint, sanded and buffed, but the gaps are only as good as they can be without cutting and welding, etc.
6k is not alot, think about it at 60 per hr, how many hrs to strip, and prime? how many to align panels? how many just in painting time? how many in sand and buff?
you will eat up 100 hrs very very quickly, a camaro is generally 175-225 for nice body and paint, you do the math with materials, and labor

That is one though looking ride. And your figure is low, as already mentioned.
So where are you from? east west north south?

Pricing is a bit geographical also. In the hills of Tennessee paint comes a lot cheaper behind Billy Bobs pole barn behind the house then at a shop with frontage in Cali. So where are you?

Im from South Texas in Laredo, Texas to be exact. Our General concern is door gaps we kinda dont know where to start, as far as mount the doors first get the gaps, then fenders and gap or vise versa. I can pretty much weld and grind, im going to shave the drip rails, capp off the door locks, weld the front fender section together etc..

When it comes to door gaps I always use the front leading edge of the rocker panel as a reference point. I line up the lower door edge corner to the rocker panel. I have also gotten into the habit of loading the door when doing this, because once the door is loaded, the weight causes the door to droop a little at the back. And you want a nice straight line along the lower leading edge of the door to.

Good luck and enjoy there fun to work on.

For a nice job 6k will be tight to work with....it's simply going to cost more than his wheels/tires. ;)

You could save some by shooting a bed liner type material on the bottom. How bad did the painter screw up the paint under there? Does it really need to be redone?

Going black and 'gun finish' under the hood, trunk, and bottom will save quite a bit as well...but I have a feeling he isn't going to go for that....looks like he wants those areas red.

Red itself is a little pricy. And you're not just leaving that out under the car port are you?

No, it doesnt just sit under the porch. The paint came out good just some runs that the owner doesnt like. The 408ci Kenne Belle Blower is ready so Im going to mount the doors and start there. Did u mean lining up the front lower door edge with the rocker panel?

Rudy, in South Texas I know of a couple of shops. One mid level, the other high end at about $10k-12k. Give me a call for details.
