Custom fuel filler
I've been thinking about welding up the gas door on my 69 Camino and somehow installing a nice aluminum/stainless fuel filler set-up. What do you guys think? I've never seen an El Camino or Chevelle with something like this. Anyway, can anyone post photos or links to something that would look good on my car?
Thanks for any info. |
My first thoughts are look at some aircraft supply houses. Often, motorcycle gas doors look good too.
Don't have any pictures to offer unfortunately, but those are good places to start looking. Troy |
Clint-
I was pondering something for my 78,i saw these over at stylin concepts and gave me some ideas, though i would like too re-locate the filler inside the bed.I thought larry over at pro-touring had a unique gas filler plate for the first gen's..that looked pretty good. I also like the filler door they use on the vipers, but it may be a little too much..If you come across something please post it,your elky is a awesome machine, with ot without the filler! Hope this gives you some thoughts... -Jim http://www.stylinconcepts.com/images...860336E1C.jpeg |
I'm still figuring out how to do this and getting ideas. Have thought about machining up something and just mounting it on the gas door but that kinda strikes me as kinda fake.
Thanks for the compliment,Jim. |
Thats true..
It does kinda give that "peel and stick" ricer feel too it.. :P O-well..back to the drawing board! :willy: |
well my pops did a 64 elco back when i was in grade school, had a LS6 th 400, 12 bolt, front and rear wheels and tires he went with wide and sticky(for the time) kinda like a "pre" pro-touring car.... anyway.... this was back when gas was semi affordable.... he built a 40ish gallon fuel tank with the filler in a "trap door" in the bed floor.... right in the mid in front of the tail gate.
easy access.... gets rid of the ugly door off the side. just an idea... good luck |
I always loved the aluminum style fuel filler neck/cap that they put on the top of the left rear 1/4 panel of the 1st generation camaros in trans am racing. them was sweet.
