ATTENTION CAL GUYS: They're trying to SCREW US AGAIN! Do your PART!!
My Buddy Kirk that works for Good Guys posted this up over on HAMB. I thiought I would do my part and pass it on.
This was sent to me by SEMA to distribute. DO SOMETHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Old Car Emissions Exemption Threatened in 8 California Counties; Hearing Scheduled for April 1 Legislation (S.B. 1549) has been introduced in the California State Senate by Senator Dean Florez ([email protected]) to repeal the state's current emissions test exemption for pre-1976 vehicles registered by new owners in the San Joaquin Valley Unified Air Pollution Control District. The District includes eight counties in California's Central Valley: San Joaquin, Stanislaus, Merced, Madera, Fresno, Kings, Tulare and the valley portion of Kern. Under the bill, after Jan. 1, 2009, new owners seeking to register a pre-1976 vehicle in these eight counties would be subject to emissions tests for the life of the vehicle. S.B. 1549 is scheduled to be considered by the California Senate Transportation and Housing Committee on April 1, 2008. We Urge You to Call, E-Mail or Fax Senator Florez and Members of the Senate Transportation Committee (List Attached) Immediately to Oppose S.B. 1549 Existing law in California exempts all pre-1976 vehicles from emissions testing. California's current emissions testing exemption recognizes the minimal impact of pre-1976 motor vehicles on emissions and air quality. Pre-1976 vehicles constitute a small and shrinking portion of the overall vehicle population in California and are a poor source from which to look for further emissions reductions. Pre-1976 antique and classic vehicles are overwhelmingly well-maintained. Repeal of the exemption in the San Joaquin Valley could lead the Legislature to target other areas in the state in the future. Legislators and regulators are again feeling the heat from a failed effort to meet air quality goals and are looking for a convenient scapegoat. The old car hobby should not carry the burden of their mistakes, as it has in previous amendments to the old car exemption! Please phone, fax or e-mail Senator Florez to express your opposition to S.B. 1549. I moved back to California after a total of 9 years in Las Vegas. I love the area that I live in, but I have finally had it with the Laws, politics and this further stupid over regulation here in the people’s republic of California. (going to move to Texas early summer...)
The AQMD, CARB and the other CA. air bureaucracies are complete psychos and a danger to us all. They kept saying we need more efficient vehicles and then the Hybrids cut the fuel consumption and in turn the tax per gallon and created a short fall in fuel tax... Then you got the ARNOLD touting the biggest hoax of all time "global warming".... Arnold has not a clue what he's talking about... He flies his private jet daily, but he pays his "CARBON CREDITS"....:wow: CARBON CREDITS do nothing and go to politicians and the UN for nothing..... The real deal behind global warming is that people breathe air and expel Carbon dioxide..... In their minds humans are the enemy to the "environment" and must be terminated.... "thanks liar AL GORE who invented the internet" think I am full of crap... check this out... Norway’s Moose is going to kill us all with its burping and FARTING..... and is one of the "biggest causes of global warming"...."Norway's Moose Population in Trouble for Belching" http://www.spiegel.de/international/...501145,00.html I want to rant but just don't have the heart for it anymore.... Everyone on this board needs to at least email a protest letter to the first post and most of all "PRAY" that these people find their morals and brains... sorry for the rant... this is insane.....:willy: :willy: Blessings, :lateral: |
I'm feelin ya r67chevelle. I'm thinking bout jumpin across the border to Nevada in the next couple of years.

Have you guys ever given a single second on thought if you start saving gas now it will last longer ? All those hybrids and low emission cars saves gas at the same time as they pollute less.
More gas saved now, more to spend in future. |
All those who want to flee Cali...GO!
...less clogging on the freeways for me so I can burn more race gas.

The basic problem with this bill is that it is mis-directed, and ineffective at best. You could take EVERY pre 76 car off the road and it would barely make a blip in the level of emissions. How many of these cars do you see driving around? I guarantee you I see 25 Suburbans for every old Camaro. In the grand scheme of things, they contribute a miniscule amount to the problem as far as emissions go. Mileage? My smog-clean 2004 F150 gets FIFTEEN miles per gallon. As an example (because all my old cars are in pieces) My mom's 65 Mustang gets closer to 20.....and gets driven 1/20th of the miles that my truck gets driven. The Mustang has a Holley on it, and probably runs cleaner than it did with the flat-top. Not legal under the proposed new rules. How much sense does that make? Arnold already crippled car builders and speed shops in the state by killing the rolling exemption two minutes after getting into office (empty BS gesture to appease environmentalists) Now this measure would effectively remove the cars in question from the road. Maybe that's the point, but it would accomplish so little and devastate the hobbyists affected by it. Stupid politicians making a ill-informed gesture. Rant over (for now) Tim |
i think fords showing the new trend with its new diesel, 5mpg but better emmisions then its old 15mpg motor. use more gas to have less emmisions, it lets the companies build gas guzzlers and lets the oil companies hose us even more.

Have you ever read the stats on what it takes to make a hybrid car? The energy used to build the batteries is way worse then what it takes to drive a hummer. I also think it is funny if I put an LS1 in my 57 chevy that I legally have to have all the smog equipment on the engine and smaog it. We then how about I just keep the original 283 in there. That should be good for the earth. It is all about money that is why you can buy your right to pollute. Until that stops, nothing will ever change. The companies that find it easier to pay then to change will always win out.
