17x9.5's front/rear - regarding performance

Are there any negatives to performance if I run 17x9.5" wheels on both front and rear for a '71 Chevelle?

Will they fit without modifications?

I plan on upgrading both front and rear suspension components (through SC&C) and don't want to work against the improved geometry/performance. I plan to slowly start using her for a daily driver and want the ease of rotation and spare storage (that's mainly why no staggered setup). I like that extra width for the slightly more aggressive look. Or should I go with 8's?

Any suggestions on tire setup and possible adjustments (offset and such)?

Thanks,
Sean

No problems running 9.5 wide front and rear. You'll need about 5.5" of backspacing. You can easily run 275/40 on all 4 corners.

Don't go 8" wide, they're too narrow IMO on a 68-72 A-body and just look tiny. Been there, done that, sold them. :P

Thanks for the replies!

That's what I would like to do, either 17x9" or 17x9.5" all around for a part-time daily driver (mostly for ease of rotation, spares, etc.). I have been told that bigger than 17x8" would cause suspension flex or movement, if the backspacing and setup wasn't perfect (and I definitely don't want that, especially after big money in suspension upgrades soon to come).

What other things should I know/do to setup 9.5's (or 9's) for a '71 Chevelle and not compromise suspension performance (5.5" bs and 275/40 on all 4 corners I got - thanks, blown353)? Anybody have either setup on an A-body?

Thanks again,
Sean
