Breathers and PCV - What is the ideal set up?
What is the ideal setup for valve cover breathers and a PCV valve? My motor is a 355ci SBC with 400hp. What do I need and still have a clean look?

Good question. The way I see it, you basically have 2 options: 1) pull a vacuum on your engine or 2) vent your crankcase pressure to the atmosphere.
The preferred way is to pull a vacuum, but it's not always the easiest- and there are alot of good and bad ways to do it. The type of driving you do can make a differance. The easy way is to vent to the atmosphere- and there are several ways to do this too. (You may get sick of smelling the fumes though) What type of driving do you normally do? |
The car is being built to be a street car - one you take out on only nice sunny days for a cruise, and maybe attend an occasional car show. Everything on the car is so overkill as I am building it with the best protouring/racing parts, but in actuality, it is basically a show car. I have looked into this subject and it seems I should put a PCV valve on one side, and a breather on the other side? Is this sufficient?
