Rearend choice

I will be having a Q-link and mini tubs done to my 69 camaro. I have read here, some of you guys talking about the extra effort it takes to turn a 9 inch. This will be the first time I have dove this deep into a rearend. Is this extra drag over what it takes to turn a 12 bolt a big deal or what. I searched as many posts as I could and read about the better pinion placement of the 9 inch. I'm fully aware of the easier gear change. Just thought I'd ask guys with more knowledge on the topic than me. Thanks guys.

In all honestly... a 9" is right about 3% less efficient than that of a rear loaded differential. It's not very much and most will never see any difference... unless you are looking at squeezing that last two to three MPH out of it on the salt or 1320.

All you really need to remember, is that no matter the device or manufacturer... it is still the assembly that makes a part worth the time, money and effort. As you are doing right now... I recommend that you continue your search for knowledge and continue doing your homework... before you you pull the trigger and make a purchase. There are ALOT of options available (for both, I should add) and this is one device that need to be done right the first time around.

There is a ton of info on your quandry over on Pro-Touring and especially LS1tech.

If you find yourself without a solid direction or knowing what exactly to do... let me know.

Just read a great article in Car Craft on this exact subject. They compared a 12 bolt, 9 inch, and Dana 60. 2% difference from 12 bolt to 9 inch. Dana 60 fared well for having 35 spline axles standard.

For a Quadra Link I would use one of DSE Q Link ready 9" housings.

I agree with Frank- Since I converted to the Quadralink setup, I went with a DSE housing. The workmanship on the DSE piece is excellent. There are tons of other ways to go, but the DSE piece suits my needs & came exactly as advertised. My #s might be a tick off, but I got the whole shebang with axles shipped to me in FL for $1600.

Id use a ford 8 inch and 9 inch over any other rear end main reason the housing is stronger the diff cover is welded on and easy to reinforce.Currie does make 35 spline axles for the 9 inch.
