LS2 vs. LQ4

What are the main differences in the LQ4 and LS2 besides the metallurgy of the block?

There are quite a few especially dependent on the vintage of the lq4. Some of which are: different reluctor tooth count on the crank, different heads, different valve train, intake and frontend accessory mounting, stronger rods on the LS2 (same as Lq9 I think), etc...I'm not savy on all the differences best to check on LS1tech.com

Big difference in price too. Plus with the 4" bore you can put the L92 heads on it. Car Craft did an LQ4 with L92 heads and got 550hp for less than $5000. They probably could have saved a little more if they had foregone the carb setup and did the L76 intake kit. Below is the two part story from CarCraft.com.

What accessory drive will you need in order to run on a 1st gen Camaro? Will the LS1 accessory drive bolt directly to it with no mods?

Yep, with the lq4 you can run an ls6 intake and ls1 accessory system.

What's the L76 intake kit? Where can I find information on it?

ItDoRun 05-04-2008 08:16 AM

If I want to run EFI, can the stock LQ4 computer handle mods such as the L92 head swap and mild cam upgrade or will I need to go aftermarket?

Thanks,
Chris

For $556 you get the manifold, fuel rails, 40lb injectors, and 90mm throttle body. It's a phenomenal deal. Almost makes me wish I had gone LQ4 instead of LS1.
