Removing old coil springs...??
 

Would it be alright to cut coils with a SAWZall? the motor is out so I can't do the jack under the control arm trick, and dont want to use a compressor, no torch either.....what do ya guys think?

Keep the shocks in place, and be ready for one hell of a BANG! I have removed springs this way, but with a cutting torch.

You can borrow a spring compressor from most of the chain auto parts stores for free. That would be my first suggestion but since it's already been ruled out for some reason, as well as a torch and compressor, I'd lean towards a friction cutoff blade in a grinder/Metabo over a Sawzall. Spring steel is about as hard as your Sawzall blades, so have a pile of them because you're going to rub your way through it.

Not that it particularly matters, but did you lose a bet or something? :willy:

A sawzall blade will be dead before you get even 1/16" into the spring-- the springs will eat up the blade nearly instantly. You touch the blade to the spring, about 5 seconds later you start getting sparks and all the teeth are gone. Been there, done that...

A cutting wheel will work but I would not want my hands there when the springs let go; it will probably pinch the wheel and yank the grinder out of your hand.

Safest destructive option: cutting torch. Only takes a second!

Honestly, rent a spring compressor. It's the safest of all options with the torch coming in 2nd.
