Cragar Wheels ripped me off !!!
Well, not really :)
Check out page 75 in the August 2008 Chevy High Performance..... thats my car in their ad !!!! :D That picture was submitted to PHR a couple of years ago for their photo contest and got a 2 page spread in the "winning photos" issue Nov 2006 pages 68-69. I got a call from a friend that though that it was my car in the ad. I thought for sure it must be another red and white striped '69, so I though no way.... then I saw the issue and there is no doubt its my car but they photoshopped Cragar wheels on to it and changed the background to a street scene. We pulled out the PHR issue to be sure and its dead on...same reflections etc etc... Dont get me wrong.... I'm not mad they used the photo.... I just hope I can get some "swag" out of it...maybe a poster or something of the layout. For the photo contest submit, I never signed any release, but I assume it was implied when we sent them in that PHR could do whatever they wanted with them. I just had no idea that PHR could sell or give them to companies to use in their ads...thats kinda "sketchy" to me, but oh well..... Just another magazine spot for the scrapbook:) Even if its not with my real wheels  Looks like its on their website too and there are 2 versions!! http://www.cragarwheel.com/current_ads.html |
Not only that, but the color ad says, "get a new look on your FORD"!!! Blasphemers!!!
|
Thats funny !! I didnt notice that.....the ad in the mag says Chevy, but the one on the website says Ford :)

similar experience
Ned,
I had a similar experience. I built a red 67 Camaro (father-daughter project) that would up in Camaro Performers a few years back. I sold the car and then was contacted by a buddy who told me that my old Camaro was being used by flowmaster in one of their 3-way fold advertisements. Sure enough, he showed me a copy and it was my old car. Fast forward to May of this year and I ran into the guy who has that car today and he confirmed that flowmaster used the car for advertising purposes and he asked for some swag. They gave him free flowmaster parts FOR LIFE!! Fast forward to yesterday and at a local show (Bowtie Bash) inside the goodie bag was the same flowmaster advertisement with my red Camaro. Cool to see the car get some pub. Take care, Chris |
Heres the original mag spread...
http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/e...P1010001-1.jpg Heres the ad.... http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/e...amaro/ad27.jpg Look at the reflections etc and they are exactly the same....just different wheels and background. In the Sepia version the website they kept the orignal backgorund |
Too bad they couldn't find a car that actually had Cragar wheels on it. Probably because there aren't any....
|
Just to clarify one thing..... the original pix WAS NOT taken by a hired professional photographer for PHR....it was taken by my amateur friend to be submitted to a PHR contest for amateurs. No one got any $$ and no one signed a direct release to allow the pix to be sold to anyone else....
I'm alittle annoyed but not mad... Im gonna contact Cragar and see what they have to say..... |
Where did they get the picture??? I didn't give it to them. I'll ask Johnny but it's not something he would normally do.
Like I said, didn't get it from me. I will ask around tomorrow. Maybe you could spin this for a free set of wheels? Should I call Cragar? lol I saw the ad and thought it was your car but said, "no, it has the wrong wheels" But is is the same photo... I will check around. |
This seems to happen semi-often in all the different automotive magazines.
|
Thats really the chance you take when you allow the world to see your car. I don't necessarily agree with it, but you shouldn't be suprised.
