installing Recaros in a '67 Camaro
Those of you who put Recaros in your first gen; how did you mount them? Were you able to install the seat tracks from the original seats to the Recaros? Did that require fabrication, or just drilling some new holes?
I've had mine sitting here in the front room for months now. I'll be getting started on the project soon, but any advice from those who've done it already would be appreciated. |
Easy way: buy the Recaro sliders & tracks (way better than original GM, multi-tooth locks on both sliders, finer adjustments, and zero fore/aft slop) and then buy the mounting brackets from Wedge Engineering that adapt the Recaro sliders to the factory seat mounting positions.
The Wedge brackets sometimes take a little tweaking, but on the whole they're pretty decent pieces. I reinforced mine a bit as I could feel just a little bit of flex; 4 small gussets per bracket and 20 minutes of welding fixed that problem. You can make your own brackets very easily, but I highly recommend buying a set of the Recaro sliders. |
Thanks for the advice. Though I scoured the site pretty throughly, I never saw anything mentioning mounting hardware where I bought my Recaros. You wouldn't happen to have a link to a company that does sell the Recaro sliders?

I have the Recaro Sliders and an after market set that is just as good for less money. if you are still in need let me know and I can get a set out to you.

Any Recaro dealer can get you the sliders, here's an example:

What seats do you guys recomend for street driven / daily use ??
I have allso bought the wedge engineering tracks allready and made my mind for recaros. First i thought speeds but now when comparing them to other models they look little too "heavy or 80s " on my eye. Anyone ever seen these live : http://g-werke.com/productpage.cfm?item=RNAsptsr_p Offcourse fold down seat is a must for back seat use. |

What he said... You need to mount the seats that thier LOWEST position. I cut off the extra ears on the front of my sliders to get a close to the floor as possible. Be forwarned that if you get the power option from Recaro the seats sit almost an inch higher. That's why I went manual with Penny. My Recaros are bolted to the factory location. |
Thank you for your replies guys. I appreciate the help.

Another question; the above linked sliders are available with or without height adjustment. Why wouldn't I want the one with height adjustment?
