VA Gen IV or Gen II Super?
 

I'm trying to decide on my AC system for the Cuda.... so far no one from VA has returned my call or email.... I've got the catalog and gone online, but the info so far isnt helping me much

I'm hesitiating on going with the Gen IV since it seems so massive..... the Gen II is smaller by a couple of inches in several directions. Since I'm going to be running an EFI computer, trans controller and a bunch of other electronics, I'm concerned with under dash space....

So from what I can gather, the Gen IV has more "fine tuning" ability for heating and air, and is probably alittle more efficient,,,but is there any other big diff that would make the extra size that much worth it ??

They both run electric servos, so no cables or vaccum etc....

The car is all aftermarket, so I'm not talking about the Sure Fit type system....

The smaller the evaporator you put under the dash the slower it will cool. Plus you want to install the biggest condensor you can squeeze in front of the radiiator, to help make the system cool faster also. I almost alway order the condensor separate from the AC system kits just to get the biggest on possible.

In 2005 Ford Moter Co hired Vintage Air to design the A/C system for the then new $200K Ford GT. When VA was done they had in their hands the Gen IV Magnum!

By and a far the baddest aftermarket A/C you can purchase.

But what makes the Gen IV better than the Gen II ??...

To me, if its a matter of a couple of extra minutes to get the car cool, I'd sacrafice a slightly smaller unit to gain some space..

If its a lot of other benefits, then I'll go gen IV.....

The Gen 2 Super Cooler is harder to package in most cars (LONG) then a Gen IV. I only used one Super in a F body, PIA! To be honest, I would have to check with Vintage Air to find out is a Super was as big or bigger then a Gen IV in capacity. I can tell you the Gen IV is way more powerfell then the Gen 2 Compaq mot were putting in their Camaros.

I know that I have a gen IV in a 57 Chevy hardtop we did. Big cabin with a real green house effect with all that glass. The Gen Iv cools hard enough you will actually turn it down.

Another nice feature about the Gen IV is that it is all electronic. No vacuum, no levers, no capillary tube. You can put your controls anywhere.

I have mock up units I can send you to put under the dash and see what you can fit. This way you can try it before you buy it and pick the one that works best for you.

We use both units and have to say the only thing I like better about the GenIV is the controls and how hard it blows. It really is the best unit you can buy on the market today. We use alot of them and have several different controls you can use with them.
