New guy with a 67 mustang

Just chimming in to say hello. I am an engineer who used to drag race, but got a little bored with it. I raced Mustangs for a while in NHRA stock eliminator. I am diving into something new now. I am building a 67 Mustang coupe as a pro-touring style ride. I was wanting something I could drive and have fun with 7 days a week. Anyway, I am early on the project. I am on the front suspension right now. I looked at some of the offerings out there, but decided to design my own. It is a SLA style with pro shocks coil overs, power rack, and fabbed smaller shock towers to support the coil overs. I took out the shock towers to make room for a mod motor. Hope to be on the rear suspension soon. I am planing on a torque arm style for the rear, but I am looking at a 3 link as well.

Anyway, great site! Just dropping in to say hello!

Shawn

Will get some this weekend. Still in the layout/prototype mode, but I will post some pics for the front. I have a couple things I want to rework here and there.
Nice car by the way. I used to be a bow tie guy before I went off the deep end....:)

Here are some pics. I have made some changes already and I have a new crossmember built with the rack mounts on it. I am building a new set of towers with some changes this week. The geometery worked out great. So far, so good. My build is not a high dollar build, but it will be something I can beat on and have fun.

Are those SN95 spindles? I always thought of using that setup at some point and kinda sorta copying the Factory Five front suspension for other applications.

Looks like a good start to your front setup. Any details that you can share from a design standpoint would be great.

Thanks,

Brandon

Hey Brandon,
Yep, those are SN95 spindles, similar to the FFR deal. I like the setup. There are a few companies out there doing it but they cost a fortune. The spindle adapter allows you to change the height of the spindle so you can monkey around with roll center and big brakes are easy and cheap. I set this up to increase the track width by 1" per side to allow me to use FR500 wheels without a spacer. I am going to use a FOX rack and pinion. The base design puts the RC around 2.7", chamber gain of 1.1 deg per inch of compression, and caster of 6 degrees. I am making a couple more kits for a couple of friends so I am designed it to be somewhat modular. My friends have 66's but they are not much different. To install it, you basically slide the LH and RH tower over the frame rail, then slide the crossmember between the frame rails and weld. There are a couple plates that tie the towers in up top. I will work up some braces to go to the firewall and from tower to tower. That's pretty much it in a nut shell. Oh, I plan on using a spined sway bar up front too. I am just starting on this, but it has been a blast so far. :)

Very Cool. I'll be watching you progress.

Where did you source the control arms? - or did you make them as well?

CRS_DESIGNS 09-02-2008 06:02 PM

I made the lowers but the uppers are IMCA type A-arms that I purchased. I think I may end up with a fabricated hiem style upper A-arm however. I like your projects by the way:)
