:willy: Some of the nicest headers I've ever seen were built by FWRC out of Indy for my friend's Pro-Stocker. Absolutely beautiful tube fitting & welding but what really set them off was the super trick CNC machined head flanges which were heavily profiled & lightened. Work of art. They were 321 stainless, stepped primaries, Tri-Y, reverse megaphone slip adjustable merge collectors and a WB02 bung in every port, I believe they were $8K or so. That being said, SPD, Burns, and many others make very nice headers too. I've seen dozens of examples of each plus some other builders work too... but the FWRC ones take the cake for the super-trick flanges! http://www.fwrc.com/exhaust-systems.html However, if money is no object on the headers and you plan to have a substantial investment in them I would be primarily concerned about hiring someone with excellent knowledge and experience when it comes to exhaust design and tuning. What good is spending $3k+ for custom headers if they aren't tuned to maximize your combination? |
I was coughing too much... **inconel**... before I could post this any earlier.
And yes... Burns specializes in inconel... not to forget to mention that his "X-Design" program is the cats ass in proto/development units. BTW... BAD... pass the kudos up to Tim. That is some quality work... |
im totally with you guys on the inconel being the most expensive, and propably most highend, but unless tou really need the last ounces of weight id much rather have a header made from alittle thicker wall 321 stainless and not have to endure the soind of a paper thin header.. also with that thin a tube im not sure you can support the weight of an exhaust system....
is it for race only, or do you "just" want the look and feel of perfect quality?? |

I can hand build anything you can imagine when money is no object. The biggest problem we have when we design stuff is most of the guys wont pay for the time and that is why we are going to start manufacturiing SS headers that fit. Over the last year on every application we have bought headers not one has fit yet with out heavy mods. I am tired of giving companies money for products I have to fix so they fit. |
we have several vendors that can do fantastic tig work on headers. I have a set of 321 stainless turbo headers from Tom Nelson Racing, and they are the nicest welds I've ever had on a set of headers.
