mass air question

guys

does anybody know how far away from the throttlebody i can mount the mass air on my ls1 and not create a problem (if it would) .i am building the intake system and i have a limited clearance in front of the tb to use the 180 degree tube i have .if the tube is say 14 inches total length when cut down and i mount the mass air to it would i create a problem by doing so.???.

If you look at a C5 vette or a GTO it can be as much as 12-18" away. No problem on the distance away as long as you try to keep the air entering and exiting the MAF as straight as possible for a good read.

Hope this helps.

You can do 14" no problem, but try to avoid:

1. Any significant flow disruptions close to the MAF
2. Any significant diameter changes/transitions in between the TB & MAF
3. Keep the MAF away from electrical noise, and of course, heat

OR: just go down to Adrian's & have him MAKE clearance for ya!

hey jeff
i have a 3 1/2 mandrel bent 180 tube so its smooth . my clearence issue is distance between the radiator and the tb for the outside radius of the tube ....what will happen is my mass would mount beside the throttlebody facing the firewall( hole for original wiper in cowl)...which is where my air filter will get its air ....
RPS sent me a 3 1/2 to 4 inch connector for the tube to tb and it has a (bump/lump ?) in it and the 3 1/2 to 3 1/2 for maf to tube has this bump ..i wanted smooth transition connectors....guess ill call them tommorrow...

thanks for the help....i just want to make sure of what i do guys..
