Home made "hydraboost" Have you seen this?

Have you seen this link http://www.geocities.com/casanoc/ 68 camaro full of really clever tricks! I am intrested of buildingmy own home made "hydra boost" as did Carl. He has used 99 Cobra unit. What other high performance cars have had this same set up ? And what years to look for? |
Look for trucks, pretty much anything heavy duty has a ahydraboost. All of our Ford trucks from 99-04 have hydraboost and a lot of the Chevys do to. Any BIG truck that doesn't use air brakes also has hydraboost.

I think i will look for SVT Cobra mustangs. Its been factory installed.

Joni, no need to put ford stuff on your car, get a GM hydrobooster, it will bolt right up, the pattern is the same as your vac. booster I have a hydrobooster also, a junkyard unit, just needs some lines and reworking the rod for a clevis, that's all.

Thanks Marck! I just wanted to know is it possible to use junk unit .. I know Hydra is sponsoring this site but i just need to cut extra costs on things wich i can "fit" my self -as you did.
Ps i saw picture of cars body at you site. Looks really really good!!! Pss i have finally solve my front end issues. I will let you (and the rest ) know when its done. ;) |
I plan on using one off an 80s cutlass Diesel... Diesel cars all have them.

DIY general info
Instead of just standing back and simply observing this post, I'd actually prefer to chime in and educate you guys a little on this. Before you go jump head first into a DIY scenario, you should know a few things about the systems you are discussing. The '96 up Mustang systems are going to throw you a curveball or two - click here for further info: Mustang assist unit peculiarities Also, note that the Olds G-body '80 - '85 only Type II assist units (without the external accumulator), should also be generally avoided (unless space constraints just simply will not allow for proper clearances of the superior external accumulator design)...

I really like the mod he did on the stock PS pump, I'd like to do that to mine!
I don't have anything to contribute regarding home-made hydraboost, but I'm running one of Paul's units, and it's badass! This past sunday at the drag strip, I decided to see if I could stop for the first turn out (which requires some HARD braking at this strip). Well, I didn't make it and had to go to the second turn-out. Not because I didn't have enough braking power, but because when I put my foot into the brakes, I got lifted out of the seat and about hit my head on the windshield, and had to let off before I lost control of the car! Time to upgrade those old stock seatbelts... |
Thank you Paul for taking part of this topic and shareing your opinion without the common "dont talk about this because we supporting vendor" whine,as seen in another forums.You pointed really good matters to think before trying to build it from e.g. mustang parts. I gave eye on some units on ebay and they were not so cheap after all considering all the work ahead before it sits on my firewall. I will send you PM about ordering one.

Troy - you really need to invest in some serious race harnesses for your ride if you're going to attempt these levels of mega G force decel maneuvers! Didn't you also just about "soil yourself" when you nailed the brakes last year at about a 150 mph? :yes:
