acetone in fuel

ive heard a lot about adding acetone to fuel and it sounds really good,if not too good...
so i would like to know if anyone here either uses acetone in their fuel or if anyone knows anything about this fuel addetive.
I have reaserched a lot about it but i would like to know if anyone has used it in thier own vehicles and if it has any flaws.

I think Jody has some experience with additives, I'm sure he'll chime in.

You want Toluene, not acetone.

Toluene or Xylene is an excellent octane booster. Never tried Acetone, and probably won't!:D

ive heard lots about better mpg with acetone (1-3 oz/10 gallons of gas ratio)
is there any increase in mpg with Toluene or Xylene?
what do the 2 chemicals do to increase performance?
acetone is also suppose to greatly reduce surface tension. that would help to get a more full burn by having a more fine spray if gas into the manifold.
And its suppose to increase octane by around 5 points.
read this article http://www.lubedev.com/articles/additive.htm
Ill do some reasearch on Toluene and Xylene.

There's no way acetone would raise the octane 5 points in that mixture. The mileage thing has been floating around the internet for a while, and although I've never tried it 95% of the people I've read who did didn't get an increase in mileage.

Xylene is 117 octane and Toluene is 114 octane. Basically mix 5 gallons of Xylene with 15 gallons of 91 and you'd have about 97.5-98 octane. About 7-8 full points. Notice it takes 5 gallons, not 1-3 ounces!

There are other boosters out there like Torco leaaded race accelerator. They claim 11 points of octane boost with a quart in 10 gallons. It contains lead and is supposed to work pretty well. I've tried the unleaded version and they make the same claims for it; no way in hell it gives more than 2-3 points max, I've tried it too many times.

mayb its .05 points with acetone lol Where could i get Toluene or Xylene?
is either corrosive? how much do they cost? does either have an afect on milage? whats the difference between the two? do the have an affect on cataletic convertors? lol lots of questions

You should be able to pick either one up at your local paint stores, both are just a really hot paint thinner. It's been a while since I bought any, so I couldn't tell you the cost.

It would be alot cheaper to run 100LL Avgas. I can buy it here for the price of Super Unleaded at the local private airport. Tolulene and Xylene are not cheap anymore, $4-$5 gallon or more. Acetone would wash the cylinders I would think. About as bad as running alcohol.
