Information question about a fire.
I tried to attatch a picture, but i think the actual picture may be to big. If you get a chance scott, can you go to this link and bring the picture over here. I would like to see people's thought's on what would have caused this fire. Nitrous or a Gasoline leak in the fuel line.
http://www.insanemustangs.com/forums...achmentid=1256 This is my buddies car, he fired it up for the first time last nite and took it out on a nitrous run. On the way back to the shop, driving normaly...he heard a pop, saw smoke, then fire......it literally burned the car to the ground...nothing is salvagable.......(and no, i am not the mechanic on this car).....but just like to see what other's think that have been around power added car's..... Thanks, hotwheels yea i just tried it again......File Too Large. Limit for this filetype is 137.7 KB. Your file is 334.4 KB. I am at work right now so i can't resize the image......thanks |

yea, it's terrible.....the entire car look's like that......the nitrous bottle was placed between the driver's and passenger seat's.......when the bottle exploded, it actually blew holes in the floor pan's.......
so what does everyone think, nitrous or gasoline leak? Looks like a nitrous fire to me, but i am just curious on what other's think too..... oh, and thanks scott....much appreciated |
Damn!!Atleast nobody was hurt cars are replaceable.

That was definitely a hot fire. The way the manifold in blown out it appears to have started because of a NOS leak, then caught on fire. I think I would be sick to my stomach for the next 6 months. I hope he has good insurance.

poor kid didn't have full coverage....only liability insurance.....he is totally out....i can't post anymore pic's right now cause of upload size limit's, but the car look's worse then the engine.........it used to be a convertible......
I have told the guy that i am going to donate some car part's that i have, hopefully that will keep his spirit's up......between myself and some other friends here locally, we may just have enough part's to get him another project going....won't be as nice as the one that he lost last nite, but it should be an awesome start.... |
Yeah, I agree with Mike. It looks like a stuck nitrous solenoid could've caused the initial "pop" your buddy heard, then it caught fire with fuel feeding it.
|
im curious why the safety disk didnt pop before the bottle got enough pressure to explode.... btw NO2 isnt flammable..... impress your friends by building a fire on the floor in the shop... and crack a bottle open on it..... it will blow the burning sh...stuff all over the shop...but wont intensify it.

btw... i think it will just buff right out :unibrow:

Sounds like the electric fuel pump feed the fire
