Building your own suspension?
 

I am curious of who is building their own suspesion stuff out there. To me hot rodding is about learning, planning, and executing; not becoming a catalog parts ordering specialist. So who out there is building their own stuff? It can be body panels, suspension, interior, etc. Tell us what you've done and your thoughts on the topic.
Just so I don't sound like a hippocrit: look at Brett's 1973 Camaro or Brett's 1972 Chevy truck. Those were built entirely in a garage by me (camaro) and Mike and me (truck). They are very custom and offered great opportunities to test myself and learn huge amounts of new "things."

I built my entire interior and am working on building a triangulated four link right now also. I have done alot of odds and ends on my car also, like billet fender braces, door jamb vents, and some other small parts like that.

got billet tail lights and cowl in the works too. got em drawn on solidworks but havn't started the work yet.

I have built several of my own suspensions and will be doing so on my 67 chevelle I'm working on. it has a parallel 4 link and will be building a watts link for it as well i have designed custom suspension parts for the front. designing and building is alot more fun then just writing a check for it

i designed (cad) and built a parallel 4 link with watts and splined bar for my 70 chevelle. pics to come in the next month or so......

That's sweet to hear that you are building your own "stuff." Do you guys have any pics and any input in reference to how pleased you are with the results and how difficult it was/is. I am hoping that others read this thread and get somewhat inspired to try new things they don't know.

I have built quite a bit of stuff for circle track cars over the last 20 years going back to when I was in High School. Stuff like our own modified chassis, a few cages and some rear suspension components. I have also made a couple custom sheet metal side scoops for a friends 69 mustang fastback and modified his hood for a taller intake. For a few years I was really into choppers and have modified frames, tanks and fenders. I have even built my own custom tank for a chopper that I may never get around to finishing, it has taken so long I don't like the way it looks anymore.

Right now I am applying the pro touring treatment to my 67 Firebird, which was the car I drove in High School. As far as the fabrication I am doing, I will be modifying the ram air hood to clear the intake, add custom side scoops to the rear quarters and it will have a full frame that is channeled 3" in to the body. Custom floors and trunk area, smoothed firewall, custom roll pan for the rear and I will be doing some work to the front valance. The rear suspension is a 3 link of my own design that I have been working on the design for about 8 years off and on since I disassembled my car. The design might not be as good as what I can buy but I really like doing things myself.
