Ebay or Craigslist? anyone use it for selling with any success for used car parts?

I know theres the "for sale" area here but I am curious about any success stories selling used parts using ebay? I am talking about used carbs, wheels, tires, shocks, misc.stuff such as side mirrors, chassis parts,Hedders, manifolds etc.

I went to Long Beach swap meet with a friend who had an extra spot and asked if I wanted it he said it was paid for and I could have it, I went and took what stuff I had (mainly stuff listed above) and I made $91.00 wow! if I would have had to pay for the spot and my gas I would have lost money! now granted I am not saying I have dynamite stuff but it is pretty clean and in good shape, there seemed to be alot of people there but they were keeping there hands pretty firmly in there pockets (economy?)

So we started talking about Ebay and craigslist and my buddy says he's probably done doing the swap meets and is going to do ebay instead, he only goes to L.B a couple times a year anyways, but this guy said a year ago he would never do that, but his son (tech wizz) has shown him a whole new arena.

I am just curious if anyone here sells parts like I have listed with any success? I did sell a set of Hedders for a 55 Chevy on craigslist awhile back for 50 bux! wooo hooo! other then that I have had very little success with Ebay/Internet.

lets hear the pros & cons of Ebay for Selling used car / performance parts.

Ebay works well. Totally depends on the part though. Sometimes the things I think won't sell at all bring the best $$$. Then the high demand things I think will bring $$$ don't sell. It's all about timing. Have to be quality parts and LOTS of pics!

FROM SOMEONE WHO PROMOTES SWAPMEETS AND WHO ALSO SELLS ON EBAY--THEY BOTH HAVE THERE BENEFITS---MY EX-PARTNER WAS ALWAYS WORRIED ABOUT EBAY,CRAIGSLIST, ETC TAKING OVER ALOT OF OUR BUSINESS--I FIND THE OPPOSITE!! MOST GUYS AND GALS ATTENDING MY MEETS ARE THERE TO "PUT THEIR HANDS ON THE PART" OR BUYING TO LATER RESALE ON THE INTERNET!! A BIG MAJORITY ARE STILL NOT IN THE "COMPUTER WORLD" AND REALLY LOOK FORWARD TO THE MEETS BECAUSE THEY HAVE NO WERE ELSE TO TURN (I KNOW IT'S HARD TO BELIEVE BUT I SEE IT EVERY TIME) ALOT OF OLDTIMERS STILL REALLY DO BRING OUT BARN FINDS! AND IT NEVER CEASES TO AMAZE ME OF WHAT U CAN SEE!! MY MEETS ARE IN HOUSTON AREA WITH 3-4 MILLION WITHIN 100 MILES SO I HAVE REALLY LARGE CROWDS ! ECONOMY SEEMS TO HURT SOME RIGHT NOW BUT MEETS ARE STILL LARGE!! NOW FOR EBAY --IN LAST 3 YEARS I HAVE SOLD 13-15 G'S OF PARTS -MOSTLY MY OWN COLLECTIONS --SOME BOUGHT TO RESALE--I FIND IF U DO YOUR HOMEWORK WHEN BUYING (CHECKING FEEDBACK MAINLY) U WILL NOT HAVE MANY PROBLEMS--WHEN SELLING --U WILL GET SOME SQUIRRELS BUT FOR THE MOST PART I HAVE NOT HAD ANY MAJOR PROBLEMS!! I USE PAYPAL EXTENSIVELY SO U CAN INVOICE PEOPLE AND GET ALMOST IMMEDIATE PAYMENT--THE 3.9% CHARGE IS JUST PART OF THE SALE TO ME FOR THE EASE OF THE PAYMENT AND PEACE OF MIND!! SORRY FOR THE LONG SPEECH--BOTH HAVE BEEN GOOD FOR ME JIM:thumbsup:

I'm amazed the parts I can find on EBAY all the time. I try Ebay pretty soon after I start my search and have good luck on odd parts like bumpers, Old magnesium wheels, dashes and gauge cluster.

I love it! Ebay made me $330 today selling off old parts that I do not need anymore. I am pretty picky when buying new camaro parts off of ebay though, most of stuff is overpriced due to shipping. By the time I consider my drive to the classic chevy house + I can inspect the parts and still save some coin.

Coming from a sellers standpoint, I've always had good luck on Craigslist myself, selling mostly the types of items that you have listed, i.e. smaller misc. itmes.

ive sold parts on ebay for 6+ years, sometimes you take a loss if you dont set a reserve, but on parts that have a demand i find you do much better on ebay since you have a large audience and the nature of auctions and bidding wars work for you.Ive sold some stuff that has gotten 5 times as much as i thought it was worth or i would get locally.

I use both. Craigslist because the price is right for the ad, and usually the buyer is local and I can get rid of the stuff easy.

Ebay, when I just want to get rid of something, I list my stuff with no reserve, if I don't need or want it anymore, I don't want the hassle of relisting etc. I don't think I have ever listed something that I was disappointed with what I received. I set the shipping at as reasonable of a rate as I possibly can ( I have lost money with my shipping calculations, but I am just trying to ger rid of stuff. I let the buyers out there figure out what it's worth. I can say, by setting no reserve, I have managed to sell everything I list.

I have used mostly Ebay. I listed a Jeep on Craigslist for the first time this summer and it sold within two days. The swap meets have their place like getting rid of big things ie;fenders, hoods and headers. Pomona and Long Beach (Vet. Stadium) were good but the INTERNET and Mail order companys have slowed those imo. I still like them but it's been a couple years since I have been. What's nice is Craigslist is free but I would imagine that will change. Ebay fees can suck up the profits.

Hey man! I was the guy that stop by and asked 50 questions about your Nova :)

I won't give up so easily. Last weekends Long Beach Swapmeet was very weak compared to others in recent past. Mostly due to timing.

In the past 3 weeks we've had 3 large swapmeets in the area. There was a LB Swapmeet 2 weeks before, Pomona a week before and another Long Beach meet again on Sunday.

Good meeting you! The Nova very nice!
