Best EFI System for Pontiac 400
 

I was looking around and planning ahead and the one that really struck me was the Butler EFI system.

Anyways, you guys have any opinions or advice

I know those guys at Butler quite well and they have it figured out. The fact that they can provide some decent base maps is valuable. Nothing better then experiance

Butler is the one I have my eye on for my 468 pontiac.

All the other systems i have seen look really backyard engineered, but theirs looks like a solid package

Really the only difference from any other brand (chevy, ford, etc) system is the manifold/rails and the base maps. All other components are generally the same. So it's a feature comparison of the ECUs that you should be looking at, and not to overlook support, be it from the manufacturer or by user base (popularity). To break it down:

Manifold & Rails - Edelbrock seems to be pretty on top of the list, though the Tomahawk is a close second.

ECUs - FAST XFi, Accel DFI, BigStuff, MoTec, Electromotive, Wolf, SDS, GEMS, Edelbrock, Haltech, Holley, and Professional Products all have decent ECUs. Some cater more towards the import market, though the technology crosses over to USA makes easily. For Pontiacs, personally, I like the FAST, Accel, BigStuff, and the new comer, Professional Products (Powerjection II). But you can be successful with any of the above, even the DYi stuff.

Try not to be too concerned with base maps, because they are just that, basic. ANY refinement needs to be done for each combo, so you won't get away free there. Although there are what's considered 'self-learning' systems out there, you still need to get it close, which really isn't THAT difficult once you know the basics. Ever master a new video game? Same concept, don't be afraid to experiment.
