Pontiac and t56

Anyone do this? What kind of power are you making?

ATS has done it, you may want to contact Tyler and see what he has to say about it. Also you can check out my build thread it has some info in it. I'm only at an estimated 300 HP.

I'm not sure what you're asking. The McLeod modular bellhousings sem to make the swap pretty easy http://www.mcleodind.com/application...L_HOUSING.html, and the T56 can be made to handle in excess of 1,000 HP pretty easily. Stock they're good for about 400-500 ft. lbs or so, depending on model.

Ok, my main concern is this. Get on youtube and listen to a 5.0 rev and then come down from that rev. It takes a while. Every Pontiac I've owned and seen and other high hp motors rev quickly and return to idle VERY quickly. So, all that to say, the 5.0 would be easier to drive at lower speeds by far. I am a little worried that besides the cam, it would be terrible to drive a slightly cammed Pontiac around in first and second due to the internal friction of the engine. Give it a little gas, it's a little jerky but ok. Let off in the slightest amount and it may be like slamming on the brakes? Just curious. I won't have 4.56 gears or anything. Maybe stay with my 3.73's.

that has to do with fuel injection and the IAC motor on a 5.0.
That has to do with the idle air flow portion of the motor.
Put a carb on a 302 and it will rev up quick and come down quick.

Do the pontiac and you will be happy or just do a TKO600

One of our customers is using one of the new Weir Hot Rod Products conversion bell-housing for the BOP's on his '77 Can-Am build. He says it's a really nice piece :hail: and might be another suitable option for you.

I have the bell housing for a small ford and a BW t56. I have a buddy with a c5 and the clutch is so hard to press, my foot slides up the pedal and the seat back creaks and moans from the pressure. Won't have that! Next question would be what clutch to hold 800hp and be comfy. I'm ok with a 60lb clutch. Another buddy with an 03 cobra with 630 to the tire had the 60 lb one I'm talking about. I can dig that one if need be.

T56 behind BOP engines

We have kits to do this for Chevy and BOP engines. You can use stock mechanical linkage or run our hydraulic kit for 20-25% pedal effort.

We can do this for new and used T56 units, and carry brand new aluminum bells for both Chevy and BOP. We remanufacture T56 in-house, and upgrade them at the same time. This is the least cost approach.

PM or email us for details, price, etc.

New guy to this site! Yes I have a T-56 behind a Pontiac. I got mine from D&D performance, it has an adapter plate that allows it to bolt directly to the stock bellhousing, it also uses the stock clutch & linkage, even uses the stock speedometer cable.
This is in a '79 Trans-Am, it was originally a 400-4spd. It is now bored & stroked to 462 and produced 495 HP & 563 FT-LB on an engine dyno. And yes, I do get a lot of engine braking!!

I did this too on a 455. I used the McLeod bellhousing piece, and the hydraulics. I never dyno'd it but I am guessing that its somewhere around 500hp/550ftlb.
