weather striping question
 

everytime it rains my car gets wet on the the inside trunk and driver side floor my weatherstripping is fine well atleast the bubber is its not worn out or old but doesnt hold back water very well are these cars just not real water tight?

Could be the rear window seal. Could be getting under the trunk seal, could be coming through the spoiler mounting holes

If I were to put new weather striping in it how do you know it gonna be a tight seal or is this the kinda job where its just better ro have a professional do it

Here's the first thing you need to do;

1) have a friend lock you in the trunk (make sure you have a flashlight)

2) have your friend start washing down the outside of the car while you look around in the trunk

3) report back what you see

No sense in replacing a bunch of stuff if you don't know where the leak is. I once spent much time looking for a leak in a trunk, only to find that it was the seem where the inner wheel houses came together. When driven in the rain, it would fill the right 1/4 with water in a very short time!

never thought of that good idea:thumbsup: but another concern of mine is if water is getting in the trunk that it might be collecting in between the quarter panel and the trunk pan.and is there any reasons why extending the trunk pan edge into the quarter panel and welding them together instead of haveing the drop off gap?

Bad idea since you will likely warp the quarter panel. Fix the leak. The rear window is a bad spot for leaks on these cars. When were the windshield and rear window installed? If they are original, they leak.

Or you could just weld it to the trunk and epoxy the metal to the quarter, then paint over it with whatever color the rest is.. That would solve your problem and not warp your quarter.

that's weird cause i could have sworn i saw them weld the trunk pan to the quarter panel in a camaro performers magazine

You can also check your trunk seal using a dollar bill. Lay it over the seal so that some sticks out and close the trunk. If you can easily slide it side to side you don't have a good seal.

I found out that the new seal I put in did not touch the lid at all!

BTW I am 6'4" tall. Getting into a trunk would not be easy for me!
