Opinions or experiences with the MSD Delphi MEFI4 fuel injection
I'm looking at putting this system in a camaro we are building because it would tie right into a race pak unit and I could hook it up to a Kinsler manifold which I could not do with a stock ECU on an LS7.
Just looking for some experiences, It cannot be all bad alot of guys use it. Rodger |

Thanks Jody, I knew you would have some insight. We have used FAST alot on the engines we have dynoed. But there are tons of different options when it comes to programing. We are just trying to make the system the easiest to install and are not concerned with every last ounce of Horsepower. It will run fine with a cammed LS7 and a crossram I'm sure. Plus my electronics wiring guy is always looking for more and more systems to learn about, so I guess we might have to try another system.

MEFI-4B = "batch fire"
My complaint/WARNING is that the "4B" has only TWO injector drivers. (high impedance injectors ONLY)
This means BATCH FIRE, four injectors/four injectors, on an eight cylinder. This requirement states that the fuel injector MUST be fired EACH time the piston rests at TDC. This may work OK when small injector/lowHP engines are controlled. When a large injector is fitted (45lbs+), the "minimum turn on time" of most all injectors being over 1ms, that quantity of fuel is to great to run the engine without fouled plugs/washed out rings.... That is a lot of fuel, wasted. Then the issue of the "injection instant" being correct at maximum valve lift/air flow being "forgotten" is just sad. Sure the "4B's" cost is only $200.00, a bargin. I did some research yesterday and found out that MSD sold their fuel injection line to Painless. You are correct the Mephi system is batch fired. And their systems are kind of a pain to program like Jody said. james who owns the OnelapCamaro is running this system and likes a few aspects of th computer but would go another route if he could do it again. I Talked to the guys at Racepak yesterday and found out that they have most of the connectors avalible to connect the racepak to most major EFI companies.
So I'm probably going to run the FAST unit so I can run a Kinsler crossram at some point. Probably alittle more then I need for this or want, but probably the easiesy way in the end. My main objective it to be able to run the racepak and not have to double sensor the syetm in the car to do it, but be able to run an individual runner mainfold. But I don't care if it is totally tunable to to get every last ounce of HP from the engine. Rodger |

Proper Tuning
Maybe, I read the statement "I don't care for the last ounce of HP" wrong.
But, my feelings were "hurt"! The time/money that I spend to make the Pantera EFI ECU-882C-x work correctly IS important. Most quality systems will make the same HP at "steady state" RPM. Those systems, mine included, will make 25 HP more vs a "4B" on a 500HP engine. (Adam, Wiks Racing ). My concern is at part throttle when traveling done the road. This is MOST of the time the engine operates. IN this condition, EMS choice can result in a 100% increase in HP. The result is much lower fuel consumption, longer engine life, less pollution. Lance |
