Help with window alignment!
 

I've scoured the forums, and have the fisher body manual for my '69. I still can't get my drivers side to fit well. My glass is original, door is original, tracks are original. Sadly, the glass was not in the car when I bought it, so I have no reference.

I noticed a slight bend in the sash that bolts to the window itself. Could that by my culprit? Looks like its bent up ever so slightly from years of over tightening the window and mal-adjusted stops.

No matter what I do, I can't get the rear of the window parallel to the quarter window or the top of the front to seal. It's closer at the top than the bottom along the quarter window. It's also low at the top near the front. It just doesn't make sense. When I move the sash that bolts to the door (#7's in the manual) to straighten out the back, it gets even lower at the front. If I get the front closer at the top, the back is out of whack. I've spent hours on it. It's like the glass is a different shape than the roof/a pillar. It hits at the front near the bottom, doesn't seat at the top of the front, hits at the top of the back. How can the top of the rear and the bottom of the front hit before the top of the front seals? WTF?!

The door is straight, it has new hinges and strikers, all lined up nicely. I used the original trim that was on the car when I took it apart. The passenger side is so perfect, I don't think a robot could do a better job...but this driver side is killing me. ARGH!!!

These cars never had great sealing anyway but you can get it to fit. Be absolutely sure your glass is original, your roof rail chanels are not bent, and that the weatherstrip is correct. Some of the units currently on the market do not seal very well. There is also the possibility that the body is slightly tweaked as the area you are having trouble with is a high stress area of the body. Anyway, if you've exhausted all adjustment settings, you can shim the roof rail channel to get a better fit towards the front. Just be sure to install foam tape between the body and rail from front to rear to prevent leaks and wind noise.

Thanks for the tips. I was able to get it alot closer. I realized that a good deal of my problem was the quarter window. I wasn't able to fix that entirely, but close enough. I'm off maybe a quarter inch from top to bottom between the front window and quarter glass molding. I was able to get my window far enough into the weatherstripping that it looks like a decent seal...lubing it helped alot with the window 'seating' properly when I shut the door. I did put the foam tape up there. I may try shimming it to get that last bit I would like to see fully seated up front.
