Quaife 6 speed in a Mopar

Hi all!
I have a 68 Charger, as a pro touring project. My mind was set on using the beefed up T-56, but after talking with Quaife here the other day, i am leaning towards the new sequetial box they are coming out with later on this year, with a little wider ratio, and higher OD on 6īth. I already have a Mark Williams module rear, with 3.25 gears, so i want it somewhere in the ballpark of 0,65-75 on 6īth. That is why i though T-56 would be the way to go, in the beginning, but now, when they say they are making something that will suit our big cube V 8īs better, i was thinking  !!! Engine will be a 611 aluminum hemi, with EFI, so it will not be reving much. Tops out at somewhere around 6000 rpm.
Any thoughts guys?? Anybody with Quaife boxes here?

Thanks
Rolf

Rolf,

They make a killer race box, but it's $12K right? I'm interested to see what you come up with.

The new T-56 Magnum is a killer piece - rated at 700 LB-FT and 700 HP. I've posted a little video of it in the sponsors section. We provide bells for Chevy, Pontiac/Olds/Buick, Mopar SB, BB, HEMI gen 1-2-3, Ford FE, 385, Windsor, etc. Overall, it might be worth a look.

You are right, they are 10-12K usd, but if i should have something that will hold up against 800 hp + / app 800 lbs-ft, i would need the "tranzilla" T56.
That is somewhere in the ballpark of 7K usd. I am spending a lot on the rest of the car, so 3-4k does´nt make that much of a difference in the end

Would just be cool with a sequential box!!!

Rolf - I don't own a Quaife but I had talked with they guys during a show. Looks to be a fantastic product! Would really like one in one of our project cars.

Definitely would be a neat tranny. I visited Quaife in England a few years back, and my impression was very good of this tranny, although I couldn't put my eyes on one since they are made in limited small batch production. For a race car, the quick change headset is great.

I don't think it's the ticket for a car that does much street duty *for most people*. The clunking during gear shifts would get old after a while since the transmission is not a sychromesh design. Still very cool though.

Agree with you on the clunking gearshifts, but i was hoping it would be a little quieter with helicon gears. But agree, it is a downside, if itīs bad!!!!
Still have some time, before i NEED to decide, so weīll see:thumbsup:

We have a Quaife 6 speed in the 69 Vette we built, cool box, but it is very noisy. We used the one they built for Viper race cars.

Kevin

Was that with straight cut gears?
Was it noisy when you shifted, normally, and using the clutch??
They are coming out with a new box this fall, with wider spread gears, and you can get it both in straight an helicon gears.

Straight cut gears, the shifting isn't bad, it's just a big click and we have been using the clutch.
