FINALLY introducing myself...

Hey guys,

My name is Adam, I'm 23 years old, and go to school at the University of Kansas in Lawrence, Kansas. I'm a full-time student, and then work ~30 hours/week so I'm a pretty busy guy it seems.

I think I've been on this site for a couple years - it seems like I always saw these bad-looking muscle cars with a lateral-g.net stamp in the picture all the time, so I wanted to check it out. I love the site, though I don't have the money to afford the types of things most guys put on their cars...they're incredible to see and watch being built though, that's for sure! As is, I don't post much - but I definitely read. :)

Anyways, for the story...my dad is/will probably always be a car-nut. Growing up with rides in his 71 454/4-speed LS5 Corvette, watching him and my brother restore a '68 Corvette...he's a corvette-NUT. He stopped daily-driving the 71 in 2000, and got a new convertible, which he loves. I was raised around cars. He's had plenty of Corvettes in the past, and actually has a barn-full of parts and cars  . He's used E-bay to fund his hobbies, and he's currently building a '61 Corvette with an aftermarket frame(can't remember whose) w/ C4 suspension and a LS1/4L60E.

Anyways, my car is a 1969 Camaro SS, with me adding the RS package since I like the looks far better. We bought it when I was 13, turned out to be a pile - your typical story. Oblivious to metalwork (Dad's used to fiberglass), every panel with any bondo or rust was replaced...leaving us with just a roof and 1 rocker panel :willy: . We originally put it back together with a 350/M22, but it was boring, and got terrible mileage. So, nearly 4 years ago we bought a 98 Z28 wrecked with 42,000 miles, pulled the motor trans, parted the car, and started the swap.

Here's me at 14, taking off the front end for the first time:

Here it is with the new front end:

There was 3 inches of bondo in this fender in some spots, and the inner fender was crushed. We just replaced it all :

Here it is, on wheels for the first time again:

Done for the first time. The stripes don't line up with the emblem, I know. It's been that way since we painted it, and I've never found a way to fix it - I need to get a nice set of brushed LS1 emblems.

Engine bay. Still is missing a few things that I haven't put back on, but at least I'm driving it!

Interior. Will be pulling to lay down dynamat hopefully in the coming months, and adding the stereo. I am still trying to fit the speakers into the kick panels, need to put them in and secure it, build the console, and get a shorter shift handle to go with my orange shift knob  . It's a very basic right now, all stock minus the gauges/wheel, but it's got the factory deluxe interior and stock houndstooth seats - would love to get a set of Arizen seats in houndstooth  . Maybe in a year or two

The gauges and wheel:

Finished:

I lowered the rear 2" and here is how it sits today:

It took 3 1/2 years to get it back together (car is 35 miles away), but it finally ran again starting July 2008, and I added:

Speartech harness
Aftermarket aluminum radiator/e-fans for LS1
Stainless Works longtube headers
ATS trans x-member and clutch plate
Rick's Stainless tank w/ Warlbro 255 lph
Eaton posi w/ 4.10s
VBP fiberglass leaf springs
Covan's classic dash
Stewart Warner Power series gauges
Ididit powdercoated column with a Budnik wheel/hub

...and other small miscellaneous stuff. I would love to do an aftermarket frame/brakes/4-link, but...I'm a college student. I've got a nice stereo going in w/ a touch-screen DVD/NAV, need to make a center console for it, put on my Modo pedal covers, and then we'll take it one step at a time :P. It's got a little bit of hood and trunk alignment issues too, but they can always be worked out. It's getting dyno-tuned at a shop nearby next week, I'll let ya know how it goes!

yeah, yeah...my dad actually graduated from MU, so we've got a little family rival LOL. My brother graduated from KU, so there'll be two of us to out-number Mom and Dad!

Thanks for the comments, guys, keep 'em going!
