Last Driving Event Of The Year - Drags

Went to Rock Falls Raceway this past Saturday with Derek and another Northstar El Camino/Chevelle Club member to do some drag racing. Best run was 12.01@117mph on my third pass. Nearly a 1 sec. improvement over last years 12.99@110. I made 9 more runs trying to get an 11.99 but was denied. This makes the fifth different car I've gotten to run 12.0's. It's uncanny. Just can't get seem to get that extra tenth. There's some kind of invisible wall I run into at the 11.99 mark. I'm sure there's at least 50 hp in my heads with a decent port job so maybe I'll pull them this winter and get it done. They're out of the box GM Performance aluminum oval ports. I want to be solidly in the 11's. Weight reduction isn't an option so I need more power! :D

Derek's day didn't go quite so well. He started out with a close encounter with a law enforcement officer on the way to the track that earned him a speeding ticket. Then, while troubleshooting a 3500rpm misfire, he took my advice to check his plugs and broke one. :( Luckily, we found a racer with a fresh set of 8 and he sold them to Derek. The moral of that story? Don't speed and don't take Keith's advice.

Keith, I know you'd get into the 11s at a track that's prepped.

At Cedar Falls, I would hardly spin, at Rock Falls, I couldn't hook at all  It's pretty bad when a 15 sec car with an auto can't hook. You're running an 11 sec car with a BB and a 6-speed... :willy: Rock Falls isn't the place for you :D

...and about that ticket... I get to meet with the D.A. tomorrow to try my best at slipping this one past my insurance company

Keith, your car's ET'ing pretty well for that MPH. What were your 60fts?

That El Camino is just amazing to me. It just does so many things well. Hats off to you as its builder.

Thanks Clint!

Actually, for that MPH the ET is high. Cars with a properly set up suspension and slicks are running well into the 11's with that mph. In fact, back in the day, the previous owner was running 11.40's at 116.

I pulled a couple 1.88 60' times with my BFG drag radials which is a .4 sec improvement over the Sumitomo's. The biggest difference the BFG's made though was letting me hammer 2nd gear. With the Sumitomo's, I couldn't go full throttle until I hit 3rd.

Install some M/T ET Streets or some Hoosier QT Pros. Either of those will get you in the 11's.
