QA1's with an LS1 in 69 Camaro
 

I have QA1 coil overs and and Speedtech upper/lower control arms for my front suspension. I am running and LS1-T56 (which is ~200 #'s lighter than a SBC combo) and I want my car to sit right as far as stance.

I was sold the Big Block springs by Speedtech, even though at the time of purchase I knew I was going to run a Small Block, he said it would be fine. Later after my LS1 install I was worried about ride height since I want my front to sit low (Ex. Streetking's black '69) Speedtech again told me my BB springs would be fine with the LS1.

We'll the car is at the shop as we speak waiting for a new pair of SB front coils for the QA1's, which I am still not even sure will work.

Does anybody have a QA1 setup with an LS1 and if they do, how did you get your car to sit the way it is. Did you have to mod anything else?

We built a similar setup (LS1/4l60E) combo and installed global west control arms and QA1 coilovers. We installed the small block springs since the LS1 is lighter than the traditional small block like you said and it sits nice and low.
Take a look at our site (www.autokraft.org) and check out the Hugger orange 69 Camaro and see if that is the stance you are looking for. It has standard spindles but I suppose you could put drop spindles in and put it in the weeds.

QA1 SBC coilovers on my 69 Camaro with an LS6. The wheels are 18" (yes this USED to be Tom Izzo's car :unibrow: ). How do you like the STechs? Better than GW?

Do either of you guys know if you can go any lower than what you are at now?

When we did the orange Camaro, we lowered it almost as far as you could go on the coilovers. When you hit a big bump, the tires rubbed on the inner fenders and rubbed off the powdercoating. We raised it back up a little but if we had a slightly different offset on the wheels (to the inside) I`m sure it would clear. The inner fender tapers somewhat and thats where it rubbed. One thing I should mention is that when it was lowered all the way, you don't have much travel left and the bump stops only have about 1in of travel.It looks cool, but the ride is not so keep that in mind.

Well here is my plan: I'll see how low I can go with the SBC springs in there, and once I get 100% of the weight in and actually drive it, let it settle, I'll see where I am at then.

I am having a discussion with Tyler of ATS about the AFX spindle over at www.ls1tech.com it looks like it could be my solution if I can't get it to sit right. Pretty nice parts. And will work with my C5 brake parts.

As far as the speedtech stuff, I guess it's pretty good. He is local to me so I bought the parts because of ease and the price was pretty good. I must say he's a nightmare to deal with for technical and service, and I'm not too impressed about his spring recommendation. I assume GW is much better in this area.

I have yet to actually drive the car, it is at the shop right now getting the suspension finalized, alignment, driveshaft, exhaust, frame connectors done. Then it will actually be driveable and I'll post updated pics and info as soon as it comes back.
