Euro style wheels on 1st gen Camaro???
I just wanted to ask the question....I know a lot of guys may frown on this, but I really want to do something different when it comes to the wheels and tire combo for my '67 Camaro project. I've looked at pretty much all the aftermarket wheel companies, and no disrespect to any of them, but I just can't seem to find the right wheel.:( Don't get me wrong, they are so many beautiful designs out there, but......I'm still wanting more, or better yet something different.......but also very cool. I wanted to go with a deep polished dish, but now I think it's a little "played out" for lack of a better word. I still love the look, and please this is just my opinion. I'm gravitating towards the mono-block look, or full face wheel with no lip at all. For some reason this just looks very aggressive on a wide rim. For example, BMW, Porsche, Lambo, etc. all have a very distinctive full face rim design. I'm not saying I like all their styles, but some do look very good. Has anyone retro-fitted any of these on their cars? Since I'm literally building this car from scratch, I can do anything I want. Do you guys agree with me, or am I alone in this? Just wanted to throw this out there and see what you guys think.

Even though they are an incorrect bolt pattern (5x120 not 5x120.65 as they should be) BMW wheels will bolt up to your car. I was going to do a set of them, but couldn't find any wider than 8.5" in the correct backspacing. If you're sticking with a fairly stock style suspension they should work out for you. If you look at some of the M series wheels you can get them in decent widths.

That's what I was thinking. I'm actually considering taking the wheels off my M3 and putting them on my Camaro. I know the rears are 19x9.5. I need to double check the offset, but again, I'm building this from the ground up so I can do whatever I want at this point. Any other opinions out there? I was also thinking of some other exotics (IE) Lambo, Ferrari, etc.

I'm pretty sure the Murcielago and some Diablos are 5x120, but I believe the center bore is larger requiring the use of a hub centric spacer. Newer models step up to 135mm. I have no idea about offset, but remember some of them being at 0mm.
Ferrari's I'm not so sure about, but thought they were a little smaller. If you're looking at wheels off of higher end exotics, you're obviously not too worried about cost. Why not go with a set of one offs with a really high backspacing. Most modern wheel companies can do them with a very small lip if that's what you're looking for. This way you'll also have the correct bolt pattern and not have to use a spacer. |
i posted a pic of a 69 with lambo wheels a while back, it didnt look that bad but id prefer something more in line with the style of the car, the wheels will stand out more than the car imo

i found a great deal on some asanti wheels that were on bmw rims are 19*8.5 fronts / rear are 19*10 i tried them on the car and they fit like they were bought for the car only issue the tires profile are to small i will post some picture the weekend

I love the euro wheels with the brushed finish- I ran something similar on my car rushforthwheels.com. I looked into running BMW wheels, but I found that they didn't have enough dish for the right look- good luck! Chris
