Don Estel's new engine combo

Just finished up and fired Don's new intake system. We ran out of time to drive it to see if it solved the problem though. Looks pretty cool. We'll be doing some more powdercoating of the intake tubing in the near future.

So... uh... how's 1800-2100 rpm? (insert a smiley with fingers crossed here)

Looks good, I will keep all my fingers crossed for you and Don that the lean spot goes away!

Don't know yet, seems fine in neutral but I don't think it had a problem before in neutral. It just doesn't like 2100-2200 rpms, that's for sure.

I'm with Troy, I hope this takes care of it so Don can move on to the next phase of the project.

Jody, remember to pull some timing out as that manifold is going to build more cylinder pressure and torque than the old single plane! If my engine is any indication, I would pull the timing back to 20-21 degrees and work up from there. He'll probably be able to get away with more timing than me as his runners are about 4.5" shorter than my intake.

Another thing, does it suffer from slightly "lazy" tip-in revving at idle like mine does? I would expect his to be better since it has less plenum volume, but I'm wondering if it still behaves kind of "lazy" just off-idle with no load.

I still want to know what the REAL root of his problem is, something is up and it still drives me crazy from time to time thinking about it. LOL.

I forgot about the timing, will change it tomorrow. The throttle response seems pretty crisp, in fact Don even made reference to how good it seemed to be.

Cool! Guess I'll throw a big heaping handful of old parts into mine to reduce the plenum volume, that should help. ;)

Good luck getting the car out this week. It's supposed to be rainy during the days. It was nice in the valley this morning though. At least in Stockton it was. I'm gonna have to find a way to make another cruise out there. That thing looks great!

Yes it was rather nice. I was out bombing around country roads for almost 3 hours earlier this afternoon. You may have even seen me. After today I'm just about ready to drain the break-in lube out of the rear end and start the REAL break in of the new gears. :D
