Definitely a fun and scenic drive. There's a different car club out there every weekend it seems and of course it's a favorite with the two wheeled guys.

Not the safest drive. It's not the speed that'll get ya. It's crossing that double yellow line. :_paranoid

Well...that and when an oversized vehicle inadvertently gets on the stretch.

I hear there is a "tree of shame" with sportbike plastic hung all over it. I have seen TV stories on it and it looks like a blast to run.

My previous neighbor used to ride that stretch at lease twice a year. He was in his late 50's or early 60's and he always rode sport bikes. He headed back early one year, cutting his trip short, after he came around a corner and watched a couple on a full dress harely, going too fast for the corner, go head on with an RV, both people were killed. Not a place for cruiser bikes to attempt hairpin turns and wicked switchbacks.

The tree of shame is real. It's not uncommon for bikers to come sliding down the last stretch on their backsides past Deal's Gap - the gas and biker shop at the end.

If you have power steering make, you'd best have a cooler. I don't think I ever made it out of second gear in a new TransAm I made the drive in a couple times- definitely not the ideal vehicle.

The biggest thing they ticket for on the actual Tail is crossing the center line. It's tough to speed (and the speed limit was 30 I think).

The Cherohala (I think it's called) is also a great drive. Not nearly as twisty - so there is a chance to enjoy the scenery - although saw a couple good accidents unfortunately.

My dad drove in a hopped up 32 and called and said as soon as you finish your car you got to drive it... Pretty funny
