Wheel backspacing ?

I know this has been asked a thousand times. I just sold my 16 inch TTII's and am wondering what backspacing I would need for some 17's. They will be 17x8 in the front with factory disc brakes. The rears will be 17x91/2 with stock drums. Does the drum brakes make a difference on the backspacing because someday I would like to add disc on the rear. Also what would the max sizes and backspacing be for some 18's. Will I need to roll the lip on the rear with 17 x 9 1/2? Thanks

17X8" with a 4.75-5" b.s. and 245/45 works great. On the rears a 17X9.5" with 5.5" b.s. It will be tight to the inner wheelwell and may rub slightly there going into a driveway at a slant, but will also allow you to put discs on the rear in the future without buying new wheels. A 275/40 works very well in the rear.

Jody thank you very much. What front backspacing would be best, 4.75 or 5?

4.75 for sure.

If you are custom ordering the rims/BS I would go with 4 7/8" which is what DSE recommended when I ordered my Budniks from them. If you can't specify a specific BS then go with 5" BS as you can always add a spacer, but your stuck if you have clearance issues with 4.75".

When I had 17's, I used 4.75" of BS with a 245/45, it worked great.

Thanks guys. Scott what size rims did you run on back with your 17's? I want the 17 x 9 1/2 but I have drums and don't know when I can afford disc. Jody said the 5.5 bs would work but might rub until I can put disc's back there. If I'm only about to keep the drums would that b.s. still be ok or what shout it be. Just want to get all my ducks in a row before I order new wheels. Again guys thanks for taking the time to help. I just want to get it right.

Scott, I have the 9.5 on the back with drums (until this winter when the LT1's go on) and I have no problems at all.

How's schoolhouse life going there? Heard Jack Orrell is going there? PM me if you get a chance.

Thanks guys. Chris what is the b.s on your rims? Datsbad, is that 4- 7/8 on the front or rear. I am going with the Centerline Sundance retros.
