Identify the origin of an LS1
Hi!
After having searched the web for ages I'd thought to ask here if anybody know how to identify an LS1 and by that I mean from which car was it taken out from and what kind of power the engine was supposed to have. Here is some information. At the rear of the block on the driver side is the following number #12559378 (Which should make it a 99+ block, I was told it was taken from a 2001 Firebird with the WS6 package) There is another number on the driver side at the face where the transmission faces up. #H242 074 and #212138215 Heads number is #241 (There is another number on the driver side head but don't have a picture of it) And finally a assembly code of some sort on 2 places on the engine. (On the rear driver side head and on the driver side at the front on the block) #10YHB K010460431 Any help appreciated. //Sven |

I didn't spend any time trying to figure it all out - but this post at this website might cough up the answer for you... http://ls1tech.com/forums/conversion...ification.html |
Hi Greg!
#H242 074 and #212138215 are the numbers on the driver side of the block just above the oil filter and I can't make heads or tales of it and nothing matches the linked stuff. But thanks a lot for the link. I'm thinking that it might be a replacement engine of some sort? but shouldn't it still say in the Engine vin that it was made by GM and it's a 5.7 liter engine..... Hmm found something that might be what I'm looking for. ( http://forum.grrrr8.net/showthread.php?t=4617 Quote:
1. Component is 10 (might stand for petrol engine) 2. YHB now this is very interesting... what does YHB stand for? 3. Plant code K??? Is there a plant that GM owns that starts with a K? 4. 01 would make the engine a 2001 as several other clues has told me. 5. 046 would make it mid february or something. //Sven |
