T56 advice

Hey guys. I am looking to put a T56 setup in my 69 Camaro. Currently its an automatic car. What is the best and most economical way to put together a complete package for everything I need? Thanks.

Take a look at this thread: http://www.camaros.net/forums/showthread.php?t=98387

Note that you can't easily use the McLeod adapter plate with the new Magnum T56 because the shift rail and other parts of the front intermediate plate on the Magnum T56 project past the transmission/bellhousing mating surface.

Actually the parts that stick out are castings for the never used internal pump. New bells (at least the ones from Quicktime) are modified to clear these.

Will and f-body T56 work? If so I have one for local sale.. cheap ($1000)... they by the install kit from ATS or a kit from someone like CC5S and you are set and ready to go.

And the shift rail. As I said before, as presently maufactured the McLeod adapter plate (and most likely a standard Chevy bellhousing) won't work without modification.

The McLeod modular bell would also clear, but either solution requires the use of a hydraulic clutch linkage. In a car with a very serviceable mechanical linkage, that might be a negative and certainly adds to cost and complexity.

Or the McLeod adapter kit for about $250, plus a crossmember from the vendor of your choice (ATS and BMR are probably the best bets) or make your own crossmember. So far as I'm aware, CC5S doesn't sell parts (e.g., cross-members) independent of transmissions.

Gotcha.. I didn't realize that he had mech linkage..

CC5S does sell install parts for transmissions.. bells, hydraulics, clutches, that sort of stuff.

They do sell crossmembers for popular swap candidates.

Maybe they just wouldn't sell a crossmember to me. I asked, they said "nope."

Seriously, I don't think I've seen anyone else on the boards get one from them either.

Then why is one pictured and listed on thier website?

Oh wait, I remember.. I think they don't like to sell JUST the crossmember. I don't know if that's still the case.

How is the floor clearance compared to the T56/Tko600?

Well, it fit in my car in place of the T56.

It looks like the shifter itself sits a tad higher, but I think it's an optical illusion since it lined up perfecty with the floor.
