Acid stripping a vehicle

I am going to take my car in to a place that does an acid strip of body via dipping it in an acid bath. Anyone have an recommendations on what to do and or not to do?

A body guy told me not to do the hood or trunk as the inner and outer shell tend to be fastened via glue which washes away during the acid process. How about door hinges?

I don't have much experience from it or any insight upon it, however my buddy is building a pro-street nova and regrets getting his dipped. Not sure why, he just said it was not worth the dough.

Some roof panels are attatched with glue to the inner structure as well. My second gen Camaro is one which comes to mind. I have had two different friends say the same as GMracers friend, that they wouldn't do it again. One reason was that it didn't come out as clean as he'd hoped and cost a bunch to do it. But that's not to say you would have the same experience. I would ask a bunch of questions to the guy doing it and see what you think with more info. Good luck.

my vehicle is a convertible so at least I won't have to worry about the roof. Acid dipping is a lot easier than sandblasting on removing the undercoating which is one of my reasons for doing this.

Then go for it, but I would expect to still have to blast some of it after.

That's what I was thinking. I don't think I have many choices. Any feedback on them?

No. The owner/operator never really gave me that feeling of trust. I plan taking my Camaro to Dick at Best of Show. Actually, one of the members on this site took his camaro to this guy in Santa Ana...he also lived in San Diego...I will try to find his name.

appreciate any info. I know where Dick takes his vehicles for sandblasting. I heard that there were only 1-2 choices for acid dip in So Cal.

I have to get my car blasted soon too. And there is undercoating. I live in Wa and am still trying to figure out my options for this. What is the best way to strip the undercoating(which kind if media)?
