Garage makeover

With the Camaro done, I needed a new project, so I decided to finally finish the garage. I started a little over a month ago and this is where I'm at now. The colors will be grey, red, and black. The epoxy floor will be grey with black and white flakes, and the cabinets will be solid black.

Here's a pic to show what it looked like before I started.

I totally gutted the garage, including taking half the sheetrock off the ceiling to change some wiring. I hauled everything out of my detached garage to the attached garage. That took way longer than I thought it would. lol All the old shelving was torn down. It was pretty much back down to a bare shell.

When I first built the garage I had insulated and installed vapor barrier, but after a number of years of abuse, the vapor barrier was trashed. I installed new vapor barrier, sheetrocked, taped, mudded, and sanded the walls and ceiling. That was a ton of work and took twice as long as I thought it would. I have a whole new appreciation for the guys in the trades!

I built all new shelves that I soffited in. There are 5 recessed lights built into the soffit on each wall. They will make good task lighting once I install the new cabinets and countertop. Here are some pics of it coming together and the walls primed.

Above the soffit opening, I installed tracks to mount the doors to enclose the shelving. They can be rolled out of the way to get to the storage, then rolled back to hide what's up there. I used some trim painted black to hide the tracks and to hold the bottom of the doors in place. It works great.

In the soffit in the front of the garage, I cut openings in 2 of the doors for the speakers. The speakers are on the shelf behind them and the speaker grilles are mounted to the doors.

The windows are jammed and trimmed with a darker shade of grey. The door trim will be the same grey.

As you can see, I ran short on 2 trim boards on the bottom of the soffit. The red is oversaturated in these pics, it's pretty much an exact match of the red that's on a Craftsman toolbox. I may add some sort of trim/chair moulding where the red and grey meet... haven't decided on what to do there yet.

Next is the epoxy. It will be grey with black and white flakes. It's a commercial product that has a clear top coat, so it will by shiny.

After the epoxy the new cabinets will be going in. The are all black, black face and black doors. I found a laminate for the countertop that's called brushed stainless steel. It looks pretty cool.

More pics in a few weeks.

Wow....that garage wasn't nice enough for that camaro. I really like the recessed lighting. That is going to be one killer shop.

Nice! I like the soffit and lighting, the cabinets should tie it all together very nicely.

Hey Scott I see you were watching "Pinks All Out" the one I was racing at:thumbsup: What the heck is Zack doing?

Looking good Scott. I like that overhead cabinet idea with recessed lights.

Which epoxy product are you going with? I recently did a couple with ArmorSeal 1000HS and they turned out good. I need to get some pics up I guess :(

That is kick-ass Scott!

I just did a minor garage makeover too, much less work than you did though.

Nice job Scott. I would never leave it. Scott if you need a big brother for your son you can adopt me . When my cars done it would look sweet next to yours in there.
