low back or highback buckets?
 

im contemplating about the seat style for my car.i like the modern look but unsure on which way to go.can you guys share some thoughts or pics with me?thank you

depends on the look you're going for. On my Chevelle I wanted the car to look fairly subtle until you opened the hood. I used Recaro's, and had the headrests removed and recovered them to match the stock rear seat by Shawn Katz at Gearhead Garage. This kept them as a low back seat, but a much better fitting and much more comfortable setup than stock. Only disadvantage is that a low back seat is not as safe if you're rear-ended.

never thought about the rear ended thing/with my rear seams welded up and all the custom work to my rear bumper i think id have a heart attack on impact:unibrow:

I like low-backs too, especially in a hardtop car with that clean low windowline unless it's a hard-core looking track-day car. In which case, I dig the hard back racing buckets with holes for harnesses like ones from Arizen. They give a purposeful look instead of a "what kind of car are those out of?" look.

Jody, those seats are sweet. And Shawn does some nice work up at Gearhead. He did an excellent job fixing a botched rear seat in my car.

And I wanted the low back seat too but it is definitely more dangerous.... here's my low back ISS buckets.

I'd say it has more to do with the anticipated use of the car than on the car make/model. Choose the seat to suit the use, then trim or reupholster it to suit the rest of the interior.

If you're going for a more original or at least period-correct interior without envisioning much actual hard driving use you'd choose the low-backs. For a more modern appearance or any sort of harder performance use, use high-backs.

It's not just 4+ point harnesses that suggest high-backs; a simple chest strap for autocross or (if allowed) entry-level open-tracking wouldn't work at all well with low-back seats.
